This Par Or That Par ?

Recommended Posts

Guys,

I want a wash for a room thats approx 20'x20'. I reiterate, thats a ROOM not just a Dancefloor :bouncy:

(edit: I don't expect to wash the whole room, just something to give a nice effect. It will be on a truss with an ImpossibLED, MiracLED, Wildtech Kaleido & some scanners or something)

I have used a cheap NJD Sequencer in there before and tbh the wash was fine. I want to move up to a wash via LED Par Cans that I can eventually DMX but will deffo want to sound chase in Master/Slave mode.

I have also heard its good to use a frosted filter infront of the Cans to diffuse the harshness of the individual Leds. Is that true?

Anyways, :D

Do I go for two of these?

Three of these?

Couple of these?

or These ?

I'd prefer three units over two because I assume it would give a bit more 'of a show' in master/slave mode but don't really want to go over £120ish if I can help it.

Sorry for the long post & I know Pars have been done a 1000 times but would really appreciate your input and advice!!

Thanks

Stace

Right then. It's the 10mm LED PAR 64's without a question - the rest just won't cope, but you won't manage a full room wash with just 2! We use them to do wall washes and I would be looking at about 20 to do the walls!

If you really want to wash the entire room, rather than the walls, I would say start counting at 4 and maybe consider 8.

Master slace on the Eurolites is not even worth thinking about - I can't comment on any of the others as haven't used them. The Eurolites are fine on slow colour change and master slave, but flick them into sound to light and you might as well have bought a multicoloured strobe. If you really need them to colour change sound to light, you will need a DMX controller.

Hope that helps!

Thanks for a quick response

I was thinking they could be able to do something similar to the latter half of the video here....

Out of interest (& lack of experience/ignorance) if I was happy(ish) with an NJD light chaser/sequencer (the 4 bulb variety) why would two or three of these not be good enough? Don't flame me, I'm new here

Thanks Again!

Hi Stace.

I have some of those pars you linked to, in sound to light mode they only change colours fast, no slow fades at all, they do have a sensitivity control for sound to light use but its not that great, its either responding very fast or not at all... on the video you refer to it they are being controlled by a dmx unit in order to get those patterns.

Beams from LEDs are narrower so they wont give you the same coverage as halogen lamps & reflectors would.

Prolight do a range called Visio which use 5mm leds and give a wider angle wash and with a slow fade function, they may be more suitable.

Sound - 32 Channel System, 2 x RCF 4Pro 6001 & 4 x RCF TTS18A Subs - 6K RMS Active System

Lights - 4 x Martin Mac 250+, 4 x Assorted LED FX, 6 x 1m LED Pixelpar, 2 x 1500 W Strobes, PC Control

Video - 6x4 to 14x10 ft screens & assorted projectors, plasmas, 10 DV Layers, broadcast cameras.

The first one you have (eurolite) is a very good unit....... I`d go for that one without a doubt over the others.

Right then. I am no techie, so I can't tell you the science, but the main issue with LED usint is that they don't have the throw or spread that traditional filiment lamps do. You can buy a 300 watt PAR56 which will give you much much more spread than the LED version and at a fraction of the cost, but what you don't get is the colour changing or the lamp life that LED gives you. The video you popped up looks great, but there is no concept of how big a room they are being used in or the light level - to be honest it looks fairly dark and they look great in pitch black!

My only experiance is with the Eurolites, so I can make no comment on anything else. When I bought them I was warned off the 5mm LED's (as found in some of your other selections). I am reliably informed that the 5mm are not as bright as the 10mm. The Eurolites DO have a sound to light function, but anything over talking volume and they are on acid! There is now sensitivity control, so if you want these to do sound to light, you will need a dmx controller.

Hope that helps.
