Getting 'em To Sing

Recommended Posts

I'm a firm believer that if you get them to dance they'll have a good time but if you get them to sing too they'll have an even better one.

There are lots of tunes that fit into this category and here's a couple of suggestions that have worked for me over the last few weeks (sorry they're a bit dark) - let's have yours (& videos) too!

There are a few around here that I use

Bon jovi livin on a prayer in to the chorus - Wooo were half way there livin on a prayer...

Lulu - Shout for the repeats of the song and the end bit

Tom Jones - Delilah why why why and the laugh bit.

Jeff Beck - Hi Ho Silver lining Round here they sing Hi Ho Wolverhampton(dunno why they always have)

End bit of the grease megamix. It dont matter what key they sing it it sounds awful but very funny.

Jerry & The Pacemakers - You'l never walk alone. Any of it lol

Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody. Any of it plus air guitar

Weather girls - Its raining men. into the Chorus

Gloria Gaynor - I will survive. Again into chorus. Go on now go walk out that door etc.

Robbie Williams - Angels. And through it all she offers me etc..

Bon Jovi - Always. And Iiiiii will love you alwayssssss..

Just a few that spring to mind, sorry no videos but hope it gives you an idea.

DJ Otzi - Hey Baby

Baha men - who let the dogs out (didnt expect this to happen).

Can't think of any more at the moment.. BUt i know its happened a few times. Also a good feeling that they're having a great time!

Good vids Paul. What a tune by Journey....... I would never had thought of playing that... What time of the evening do you crank that up?

The Gambler track was played early on at that function - within the 1st hour from starting.

The Journey track was played with about 2 hours left to go - again I was in my 1st hour but there had been a ceilagh band on before me.

I must try the Gambler, need to know whether other folk on here get success with it at the end of the night as well.

Not too sure about Journey. Great track but never been requested. Wouldn't risk it unless it's a specific request.

Paul

If you can remember what was your preceding track to the Gambler as the intro is quite slow and builds up to a finale...

Nik

I have it so the Kenny Rogers 'Greatest Hits' album. You are right Nic, we need to know which track was played before and whether the full tune was played or mixed/faded in to maximise the tune.

The Gambler works down under with the right crowd.

If that goes down well for a sing song will mix in

The Proclaimers/ 500 Miles

And maybe Khe Sahn / Cold Chisel which will probably only work with an older Aussie crowd.

Another member from the sunny side of the globe! Hello bloke.

You're right about those songs, although I'm shocked at all the age groups who want Khe Sanh. And ACDC Long Way to the Top. And Angels, Hunters, Hoodoos etc...

Ohmygawd it's all my era. In fact I was living next door to Paradise Studios when Cold Chisel were recording East, Midnight Oil 10, 9...3, 2,1 and The Angels No Secrets.

Sorry guys it's an aussie thing, but for us a lot of those songs get the singalong treatment here.

But I have noticed that poms like a singalong to Wherever I lay my hat by...God, I've forgotten, but you know who I mean

I had never heard of Cold Chisel until moving to OZ but have grown to like a lot of there music. Good old pub rock with a great blues sound. I love Jimmy Barnes voice always goes down well with most 40 ish rocking parties.

Cheers from sunny Bris Vegas

I can't see the vids cos of the filter thing in work but I assume the Journey track is Don't Stop Believin'? If so, brilliant, I play it regularly, always goes down well. As does the Gambler and Sweet Caroline (both really popular in Northern Ireland).

I used to run a lot of pub quizzes and part of them was a music round. You know the thing - snippets (about 30sec) of 10 songs and the players have to name the song and the artist. Anyway I used to set myself a challenge every week to pick a song (and the right 30 sec clip) where some people just wouldn't be able to resist singing the next line aloud when I stopped it. (There's a great scene in Phoenix Nights where this happens)

It worked most weeks but my biggest success ever, which surprised me, was Total Eclipse Of The Heart - Bonnie Tyler. Almost everyone in the bar sang along, it was a truly beautiful moment.

I'm a DJ based in Northern Ireland with nearly 10 years' experience offering a range of services. Including club residencies, karaoke, pub quizzes, specialised wedding service, Master of Ceremonies, Compere, Night at the Races and much more.

Paul, I can honestly say I have never heard the Gambler track, I was like what are they singing......oh well they seem to know it and are having a great time so its all good lol.

Appart from the ones mentioned.......

For younger crowds......

Fratellies - Chelsea Dagger (Students will love doing the duhduhduh's at the begining) normally fade down at that point and let um do it themselves.

The Killers - Mr Brightside. (Student anthum this one, never fails to get um raising the roof with the singing/shouting)

Bryan Adams - Summer of 69 (This has been mentioned before, but I felt it was worhty of another mention LOL)

S Club 7 - Reach

Queen - Dont stop me now

Queen - We are the champions

Spice Girls - Stop or Wannabe

Be*Withced - Cest la vie

Shamrocks - Tell me ma

Whitney Houston - I wanna dance with somebody

Wham - Im your man or Wake me up
