Revelationroadshow 0
Just putting together our second full show. Have been a Datamoon fan up until now. Have three and have just borrowed another 2. But long term I need to decide whether I stay on the Datamoon path or not. I went this way in the first place because I really wanted a moonflower that you could see - nice and bright. Had a few Acme effects before (facination in particular) and was always dissapointed. However, I'm now wondering if I should go down the Abstract route and try a pair of Twister 4's (so I have the option as I will keep at least 2 of the Datamoons. If there a huge difference between the 250 watt 4 and the 4hp? or not much in it? Or best to stick to Datamoons? or is there something completely different I should consider?
Norfolk DJ 0
Matt I use EVL spins with a micro controller. Personally I think they a touch better than the datamoons, and are better built. However, I wouldn't ditch the datamoons as the difference isn't worth it. Robin
Bolan-Boogie 0
Why not go LED ? Some excellent led effects around at the moment.
superstardeejay 0
The Datamoons are the brightest and possibly the more reliable as they're internally simpler...the EVLs have high frequency dimmer boards which can sometimes go bang if the lamp blows. However the twisting action of the Abstracts and EVLs is better as is the sound to light. I agree it's hardly worth upgrading. .
Revelationroadshow 0
I guess I should point out that currently, I actually only own 3 datamoons. The other two are onloan with a view to buying. In order to get our 2nd show together I willneed to buy 2 moonflowes. This is not about upgrading at all, it is about adding to our gear stock.
Norfolk DJ 0
That's the key difference with the EVL Spins the sound to light is much better.
norty303 0
I haven't used the HP's but the old Abstract 250w Twister 4 was a great effect. You could set the head number when in stand alone mode so you got a different effect spread across the heads if you had more than 1 of them. The EVL's are unique in the class I believe as they have digital dimming. If you are prepared to risk it 2nd hand, you could also look at the Martin Destroyer which is still popular, an excellent effect, robust and with great control options if you want to go the DMX route. Steve_Mitchell 0
For the cheaper end of the lighting market I would say data moons are your best bet.. If you want to go better, then your going to need deep pockets. Steve 5 European cups and 18 leagues, that`s what we call history.
