Dream Catchers 0
How many aerobics instructors can you imagine will be willing to pay £250 to make half a dozen CDRs of the tracks that they use? Just think of it, if they even have a dozen CDs that they use it would cost them £20+ per CDR. How many instructors will even have a clue about the license? If they get a visit by the PRS they will simply say they had no idea (which the chances are will be true) and tell the inspector they will start using the originals. There is no way on earth they will be prosecuted because the license has not been advertised in such a way that they can be expected to know about it. Jim
spinner 0
WHAT! Here is the definitive answer, passed to me today: "Regardless of whether the function is private or not, a ProDub Licence will be needed. As soon as you copy music onto another format and use it for commercial gain then a licence is needed."
Dukesy 0
What do you make of this comment Steve? To the casual reader, citation is needed!!! smile icon
spinner 0
What do you make of this comment Steve? To the casual reader, citation is needed!!! smile icon Well, it could be construed as no commercial gain then copy and play as much as you like!!
Dukesy 0
Fair enough....but who gave the reference?! There needs to be an official acknowledgment of merit in case it is cited elsewhere from the forum!

Here it is as sent to my colleague: "Regardless of whether the function is private or not, a ProDub Licence will be needed. As soon as you copy music onto another format and use it for commercial gain then a licence is needed. In terms of a public performance licence; which ever venue you are playing at should already have a PRS Licence in place. spinner 0
Im wondering how many pro-dub licences have been sold...... I havent heard of anyone having an issue number of above 100......so they have sold less that 100 of them. I can confirm that since I bought number 99 at the end of last week. Of course it may have exceeded 100 by now.
Dukesy 0
That's nearly 4 sold a day since launch, on target for around a further 200 by NYE at this rate!

Dukesy 0
So what convinced you to buy Steve?
spinner 0
So what convinced you to buy Steve? The fact that I'll need to buy it only once, the discounted price, practicality and my wife paid for it!! I can see the logic of the alliance's case and the civil law is on their side. However, I believe the law needs to be challenged/changed to reflect the fact that consumers can, apparently, copy without penalty ( which they have been doing anyway for years since vinyl was first dubbed to cassette to play in cars ) yet DJs, who must represent one of the biggest purchasing groups, are required to buy a licence for the same purpose. NRG Roadshow 0
Higest number I have heard so far is 108..... Thats 108 DJs out of what, maybe 10,000.......so just over 1%.....not very many is it really. Once this number has exceded 500 and I can actively see that venues are checking for it then I will buy it and go back to using my laptop coz it makes my life easier to DJ with. But for now Im using CDs and putting up with the inconvienience for now.
Dream Catchers 0
Well, the page that they had up for checking who is a licensed customer has changed, up until last night it said something along the lines of "this page will go live before 31st July", it has now changed to "This page is still under construction". Do you think they are avoiding putting it up because so few licenses have been purchased and letting us know this may make us less likely to buy something that is already failing? UKHero 0
To be fair to the MCPS that pretty good going with no promotion anywhere and 198 sold cool so around £47,000 already made and only from DJs pushing it. Not bad I guess for an afternoons work lol :dan+ju: Nik Niks Roadshow
Dream Catchers 0
Out of that £47k I wonder how much will go to an artist and how much will go to MCPS-PRS as "operating costs"? If it all went to the artist and there were 100,000 artists to be paid then that would be 47p LOL Jim Edited August 7, 2008 by JimBoylan

A I read that South Asian countries had problems where thousands of Bangladeshis were trafficked to Valore of India and forced into "donating" their kidneys…but is it true that the NHS have seen an upsurge in kidney 'sales'. :bouncy:
