Sounds Great Disco, Jegs Disco (as everyone knows me as)

 

4. How long have you been a DJ?

20 Years

 

5. What inspired you to become a DJ?

By mistake....Helping out at local Youth Club & the dj didn't turn up

 

6. Are you a Full/Part Time DJ? If part time what else do you do?

How many hours is full time? But i would like to think yes

Also have full time job

 

7. What is your favourite type of function now? (eg: Wedding, 18th Birthday party, etc)

My residency, 18th to 30th Bithday's

 

8. What’s the worst/most embarrassing thing you've done in front of an audience?

Performed naked, flies undone, got really drunk doing friends party (never drunk whilst working again)

 

9. If you could go back to the beginning of your DJ career is there anything that you'd do differently? (eg: The gear that you bought, the way you promoted/advertised yourself)

Nope...i must admit after my 1st gig i landed a residency at local youth club

 

10. What do you feel you offer the public that convinces them to book you rather than "the next guy/girl"?

My sense of humour & everyone who books me knows me

 

11. Have you ever bought something for your show that you wish you hadn't? and why?

A local dj when i 1st started used to rip me off with loads of rubish, but i soon learnt

 

12. What's your next DJ purchase likely to be?

Looking at a couple more lasers, but i buy stuff every week & usally sell it on straight away

 

13. If you could get someone to invent a new piece of disco equipment for your show, what would it be?

A hardback/ hinged starcloth

 

14. What was the worst equipment failure suffered during a gig?

Blown amp, worst thing was i had my headphones on & didn't realise

 

15. What do you think is the best thing about DJing?

The fun you can have i can really lay into punters at my residency & yes they do give it back

 

16. What do you think is the worst thing about DJing?

Rude/ drunk people spitting & slurring in your face

No or little social life

 

17. What would make you stop DJing (if anything)?

All out war or possibly some natural disaster

 

18. How do you think DJing will change, in the next 5 years?

Ipods, i see more people hiring equipment but no dj

 

19. Most stupid thing anyone's ever said to you at a gig?

Are you the dj????

 

20. Best advice you were ever given by a fellow DJ?

You gotta learn to mix (18 years ago) they will love in the future

 

21. And worst advice you were ever given?

Play what you wanna play, not what they want

 

22. How do you keep up to date with music? (eg Promo monthly CDs, Downloads, Purchase from retailer)

Promo monthly cds, internet & customers advice

 

23. Name 3 songs that 95% of the time will fill the dance floor for you!

Residency... Flo rider get low, Southside spinners Luvstruck & Paul van Dyke For an angel

Mobile (wedding)...Arthea Franklin Respect, Weather Girls Its raing men & Shania Twain Man i feel like a woman

 

24. One piece of advice you'd give to someone just starting out.

Expect the unexpected be prepaired

 

25. What medium format do you mainly use eg vinyl, CD, hard-drive?

Cd but just in mid change over to hardrive

 

26. Have you embraced/adapted any ideas that you've read about on DJU - if so what?

Going out & asking people for requests...it works a treat

 

27. What is your best gig ever and your worst?

A barn in Cornwall which only 50 people were invited, but word got around & 100s turned up, even the police said carry on they seem to like it

Turning up at a gig after my trailer filled up with flood water on a road, lost all my screens & most of my other lights

Managed to perform (just) & the guests were brilliant helping me pack up

 

28. Apart from 'Word of Mouth' what is your main (most successful) form of advertising your disco?

I dont advertise it is only word & mouth in this small town

 

29. Are you a member of a DJ Association / Union?

No

31. How many gigs do you do a year, how many would you like to do?

I would say 130ish, could do with more mid-week work

 

32. What is your average charge for a booking?

Kids 1.5 hours Sun Eve only £80, Residency £120 3 hours, Birthday £180 4 hours, Wedding £250 4-5 hours

 

 

33. How many tracks do you have in your music collection?

Lots, wouldn't even like to guess

 

34. Have you ever had someone try to claim off you? (eg: Public Liability Insurance or other such legal action)

No

 

35. What is your favourite music genre?

My personal favourite is Madness/ 2 tone & ELO

But i like trance & old skool tunes
