I did a 21st a couple of months ago where the birthday boy asked if his DJ mate could do an hour set.

He mixed very well off CD, cleared the dancefloor whilst I put my feet up for an hour.

I haven't got an issue with it, I was there so he aint going to break anything.

See what your saying Rev but, what if your PA had gone down while he was doing his set... What then you happy to take the blame and the cost...?

Also do you not feel there hiring the PA and not you cause its cheaper to hire a DJ then a PA which you would have to set up and operate alnight.?

Any way gig done and they refused to sign a contract for him to use my stuff saying he was just going to drink instead... The night was awfull This guy and his Gf verbaly were insulting to me and was generaly abusive through out the night.... I guess they did not like the agent I was working for asking them to sign a small contract to use the kit.... People I hate them  Why do I do this again... Oh yeah Sat night was a dream great crowd lovley B&G

Hi Nik

My PA has never gone down (touch wood) so the chances of anything happening to it whilst he's using it I'm prepared to take lol.

I haven't worked for a couple of weeks but las gig I did the punters were the worst I have ever experienced, 2 youngish girls who hadnt got a clue.

The dancefloor was empty a couple of times due to it being about 100 degrees in the room with 1 window, no air con and people having been dancing for the previous hour. They couldn't grasp the point.

They personally asked me for the Pigeon detectives & scouting for girls (heaven help us) so I played this when the majority were having a breather, but they they thought that although they liked the music no-one else did.

A couple of punters said "what are you playing this rubbish for", I gave up trying to expalin that it had been requested after their 3rd time of asking.

So glad i am cutting down what i do as recently it just seems to me that because someone is paying you they think you are their slave and they can speak to you like a piece of rubbish

I've definitely noticed a decrease un respect/increase in abuse from punters over the last year or so and it's only getting worse. It's got to the stage where I am being extremely blunt with people as its the only language they understand.

I'm a DJ based in Northern Ireland with nearly 10 years' experience offering a range of services. Including club residencies, karaoke, pub quizzes, specialised wedding service, Master of Ceremonies, Compere, Night at the Races and much more.

I see what you are saying but I think on balance, the type of function you provide a service for can make a considerable difference to the way you are spoken to!

Have had public functions where there's been no grief and the 'crowd' have been amazing. In the same breath, there's also been really horrible nights where the 'attitude' was so aggressive and nasty, I wondered why the hell I was still a DJ for such little reward! LOL!

I do find that with the wedding service, I have far, far less 'grief' than other types of function.
