Total Compilation CD's

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Im new to this forum so appologies if this has been asked before. Anyway a little background.

Ive been dj'ing in bars around bristol for about 6 months, playing dancy music. Ive had a lot of offers to do birthdays in community halls etc.. But had to decline due to lack of sound equipment etc..

Im seriously interested in getting some kit and trying to earn some extra $$

However my only concern is that my funky house vinyl just isnt gonna do it for 13 year old kits.

Ive heard that theres a place that sells a cd set for about £200 and has almost every party/disco/cheesy song on from the last 15 years.

wondering if anyone has heard of this or knows where to get such stuff.

If not, how would you suggest i build up my cd collection??

(sorry for the long message)

I think the cds you are talking about are the CD Pool Essential Series. There are two editions, each with 20 cds and 400 tracks for just over £200.

For tracklistings go to http://www.cdpool.co.uk

They are sold on the CD Pool website for £250 a set, but you will be able to find them cheaper elsewhere. Could not see them on Chris' site but it might be worth asking if he can do them.

Dont think cd pool were the right people.... Classic cuts do a disc featuring different music genres - party/soul/ etc etc ... very good value at £15 per disc - and even better, virtually every track is playable

I still say if you want a quick collection, you cant beat the classic cuts series. How many discs are there in the cd pool collection?

This is the 'Classic Cuts' Statement:

Classic Cuts brings you hard to find, rare and deleted versions of classic DJ friendly tunes with genres to suit every DJ and audience.

New CDs are added to the range every month ensuring that the Classic Cuts collection builds into the definitive DJ collection.

The Classic Cuts range currently comprises of over 80 CDs.

As I understand it, they have about 84 Discs. Hope this sheds a little light.

Hello and welcome http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/042.gif i think the classic cuts cds are really good.

Firstly the immediate target is the teenage section.

To build up ones collection I'd do the following:

1. Get hold of Now 54, 55 and 56. 120+ tracks all from this year.

2. See what major tracks are missing from these and try to get hold of them eg. Darkness, Good Charlotte, Christine Aguilera.

3. Thirdly, look at what is high in the charts and get hold of that also.

4. Get down the second hand shops/ebay and get hold of Five's Steps' and SClub7's greatest hits.

You should then have enough to cover most discos for up to 16 year olds.

Then read the threads on this forum about what are great 90's, 80's, 70's 60's tracks etc and try to build up your collection.

The CD pool 20 disc series, there are 2 of them are brilliant for getting all those tracks in one hit, although it will cost you a lot of your hard earned wonga. The mastermix classic cuts has now reached it's 100th issue, great for specialist CD's of a specific type, ie Early Soul, Roack and Roll, Indie etc

Finally good luck, take the plunge, you'll enjoy it.

cd pool do different discs.... pop beats/pop beats extra/streetbeats/undergroundbeats/club beats.... I susbscribed to cd pool since they began many years ago and I think they have gone seriously downhill. If you are wanting to get a cd collection on the cheap, very quickly, it is going to take time - as I said, Asda do discs for as little as £2.97 and provided you are prepared to spend the time, then you will be able to build quite a good collection covering many music genres. Classic Cuts on the other hand provide discs that are totally playable - and the right version of the song required. They are £15 but if you invested in classic cuts party 2.5.10 & 17 you would find that you have all the major party tracks. They do more party discs than those listed... but for beginners.... put in the time... go to asda, woolies etc!

Now 57s got a good selection as has the latest "Huge Hits" for recent chart/pop.

A few comps I find really valuble are the Mastermix 80s theme night and the Sixties box 1.

The Motown Gold triple CD features many of their classics.

This month's Pro disc (42) looks quite good too.

Now 57? http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/huh.gif

Where's my car keys?.................................................................... >

Now 56 only came out 10 days ago. Surely not even "NOW" would release an end of November CD, then another one for early December. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/nono.gif

Well guys thanks for all your helpfull hints on how to get a collenction.

I think im gonna get a 70's and an 80's theme night box set (4 cd's each) from mastermix and as many of the recent "now thats what i call music" series as i cen to keep me up to date.

How does that sound??

Would that get me through my first party, and would that cover the essentials?

Its sorta already lined up for very early next year so time is against me!

Also chris, if your reading this, can you beat £250 for the 20cd (cdpool) essential set?

Hi ya - if your function is a mixed age range... just make sure you have the "most requested" from each genre - remember you probably wont play more than 68is tracks in an evening... It might be more beneficial for you to think about what you would play from the different genres and then post them here... then we can all tell you what we think!

Well i was thinking about buying 70's theme night and 80's theme night from mastermix.

I can also get Now thats what i call music 29, 30, 34, 37, 38, 39, 40, 41, 42 & 47 for about £3 each.

I was also gonna get the last 3 (56, 55, 54) i think to keep it up to date.

It is a really mixed party, all the family sort of do.

kazzachi, where do i get this "most requested" cd from. (buy the way you added quoted i assume it is actually a cd)

Tell me what you think,

What else would i need??
