Ska & Two Tone

Recommended Posts

I think I know the difference, but i doubt whether all the punters do. I'm getting confused myself!!!! :dan:

Can someone else give me a clear difference!!!!

two tone was a record label from the late 70's that included groups such as the beat, madness, specials, selecter, there was an element of ska in their music and many of the 60's jamacian ska stars were in these groups. ska originatedcin the 60's and was the beginnings of reggae it included harry j and the all stars, prince buster and songs like skinhead moonstomp, 007,liquidator etc. It did have a big skinhead following in the UK (so get you boots on your feet and give me some of that old moonstomping).

I used to run ska and reggae nights and all of the above will suffice.

there are some great skaa mixes on the mastermix party animals discs called the sound of ska 1, 2 ,and 3.

DMC did a great 2 tone mix too.

hope this helps

Another big label was Trojan , if you have Itunes they are celebrating 40 years of trojan and ska, 40 tracks for less than £10

Don't forget Bluebeat!

Here's a good thread to re-visit, and this one too!

I've been in to the Dualers for a while. Worth a look up. They sound as good live too.
