djdave1976 0
Isn't it amazing how people can get so upset over a song!! If anyone asks me for a song and i'm out of time I always tell them that the venue doesn't allow me to play any longer and then send them to the bar to talk to them about it. By the time they return you will already be half packed away. And why do people really expect that u have every single song ever recorded??? The usual comment i get is " just download it now" !!!! deejaymitch 0
if i'm in a good mood i'll politely refer them to the bouncers, in a bad mood i'll refer them to the door I'm a DJ based in Northern Ireland with nearly 10 years' experience offering a range of services. Dream Catchers 0
I politely explain that if I play an extra song for them I would have to play one for the next person that comes up. Also it is going to take me the best part of an hour and an half to strip the rig and get it into the van, and contrary to popular belief DJs do actually have homes to go to LOL. While I was packing away on saturday night two seperate people came up, one asking for the Proclaimers and the other Madness Our House, funny enough they always seem the ones that are at the bar all night and don't ask for a record during the gig. Danno13 0
Refer them to venue management and explain that there's a hefty fine If I should play beyond the licensed hours*. *Doesn't necessarily have to be true! McCardle 1
Don't worry, its happened to us all, and more than once. You didn't get punched so you must have handled it okay. It is pretty much routine for most entertainers to play one more as an encore at good gigs providing that its okay with and cleared by the management of the venue. If in doubt get somebody to check with them first. Some deejays may even play 5 or 10 minutes over out of goodwill, but it is your business and so your decision and at your discretion. In future I suggest investing in a copy of 'Old Shep' and then keeping this for your encore at gigs where you'd rather not have to do an encore!. Or use the old routine "Sorry, but the venue will turn off the power if I play one more". Also get your booking paperwork updated with the terms that any continuation beyond the finishing time is only done upon agreement with the venue manager and yourself. Also state how much extra per hour or part hour that you will charge for last minute extensions. poridge 0
yeh perhaps i should mention it was my cousins party that i was doin as a freebie. the guy was mortified 'Bomber' (my cuz) family was paying me and i wouldnt play his 'fav song' couldnt realy get throught to him i wasnt getting payed. in the end i just fired up hokeycokey for them then mr brightside then finished again. seemed trhe safest option at that point
RonanRaver 0
Dont take s:cense: off punters but be polite and say you wont get paid by venue or they will turn off power. Reminds me of the time a dj i know asked a punter to get off the stage.Suffice to say my mate got his nose broken and nobody would provide witness statements to the garda as all the punters were related or close friends. Always have to be on your guard even if its just a punter looking for an extra tune. Full Time Professional Dj and M.C. Residencies Monday & Thursday Storm Drogheda Co. Louth Friday Morrissons Co. McCardle 1
Ah yes, the old switch on all of the house lights and turn off the disco ones is a great atmosphere killer as far as playing another track goes, and usally gets the message across that the evening is over. yeh perhaps i should mention it was my cousins party that i was doin as a freebie. the guy was mortified 'Bomber' (my cuz) family was paying me and i wouldnt play his 'fav song' couldnt realy get throught to him i wasnt getting payed. in the end i just fired up hokeycokey for them then mr brightside then finished again. seemed trhe safest option at that point this guy got rather agresive towards me and i almost felt i was going to be punched. at 15 this was rather intimidating So your Cousin was going to punch you if you didn't play another song, and after you'd worked all night for nothing???!. Geez, sounds like my family!. Well, you know what to say in the future if he ever wants a pint of blood don'tcha :) !. NRG Roadshow 0
Its an old problem. I just refer them to the managment and tell them to take up their request with them. I played "Happy Days" Theme at last fridays and saturdays gig for the first time, went down an absolute treat with people bopping and singing to it long after the music had finished. I will deffo be using that one again for my "encore". Depending on the type of function I have used "Red Peters - The Closing Song".......be very carfull with that one though Great Auntie Mabel might not appreciate the lyrics LOL Edited September 17, 2008 by NRG Roadshow

deejaymitch 0
A lot of clubs over here insist on the National Anthem at the end of the night. It does provide a clear signal that the night is over. I'm a DJ based in Northern Ireland with nearly 10 years' experience offering a range of services. Robster 0
poridge when i first started things like this got to me , it upset me and i worried about what ifs should i's etc now all i do is say "sorry , no" thats it..nothing more nothing less i wont even discuss it with drunks i just shake my head and say no (with a ympathetic smile on my face)and then carry on packing up. I am polite but i found getting into a discussion just puts petrol on the fire. I always call last orders SEVERAL TIMES I always give a countdown to how many songs are left till the finish , i always announce this is the LAST song of the evening. after that its pack up and visibly pack up to the audience and then say " sorry no" if asked. works a treat for me. packing up quickly helps... though you will still get people asking you to play another song as your taking your gear to your car! drunks are just that ..drunk and do and ask stupid questions I do a lot of karaoke(here he goes again lol) and you basically are inviting drunks to come to you! It took me a long time and i still now can get upset at what people say and do. don't take it too much to heart, we all here understand how you feel poridge Rob Star EntertainmentsFacebook pagelandline 0161 265 3421Mobile: 0777 99 777

exbutlinred82 0
As I am friendly with most of the people I work for I more often than not leave my gear up...(with no discs or laptop of course). I can tell when they've stoked it up again after I've left tho.LOL. Found a secret way of disarming it now tho....won't happen no more...
UKHero 0
its so easy guys what I now do is finish 4 mins early then talk over the last song fade pause then say do you want one more... Play one more about 3 mins 45 seconds long and end then if they say one more you just say that was it your done on time to your contract the venue is happy you ended on time and the punters cant argue as you played them one more... Works for me everytime... Nik Edited September 18, 2008 by UKHero Niks Roadshow

This was a recitement of an incident that happen to me whilst on a gig where a guest used foul and threatening language and also threatening actions. It would appear that said moron has had an impact some years later. Ironic, but life is full of ironies.
