Maybe it's me but when I started out on the road in 1983, about 20% of the parties I did were engagement's.

I can't remember when I last did one of these. These appear to be a something of the past. maybe times have moved on.

Last engagement party I was going to do was cancelled as the couple were no longer getting married!

I had an enquiry the other day for a Divorce party or something! Seriously.

I was booked on the day but very intrigued to know more!! So is that the next thing?!

I still do quite a lot of engagement parties. I'm a pretty good judge of people and can usual tell whether a couple will last or not. So, at engagement parties, I usually have a guess at whether or not there will be a wedding.

I'm lucky enough to get a lot of repeat bookings (which I'm sure comes to a shock to a lot of you). And there is a great feeling in seeing a couple over the years, doing their birthday parties, other family events, engagement party and wedding (and maybe the divorce party and all their future weddings!!!)

Probably a money saving excercise. I guess a lot of brides and grooms need to save hard for their wedding, even if its a year or so away. I think engagement parties are considered a luxury these days, rather than the tradition that they once were several years ago.

funilly enough, after posting my reply, ive had one definate booking and one quote for engagements!! Spooky!!

I've noticed lately I'm getting very few customers offering to fly me first class to a tropical island and stay for a week, all expenses paid, to play for an hour at their wedding after the band for a 5k fee.

It's worth a try.
