Gig From Hell

Did a gig from hell last night.

 

This was A pass on gig from a local DJ.

Set up in good time and the guests arived and had music on low.

 

First thing I noticed was a big roulette table in the middle of the dance floor(not good)so I couldent entertain the kids early doors.S I msat there board off me skull playing background music.

 

Well I was until ......POP....No leccy..yip the dreaded sound meter had cut in ON BACKGROUND Music.

 

ok thought it was a freak and tried again.

 

realised i hadent been paid and it was an hour and a half in so went to ask for payment and was told it was comming.

 

After 2 hours of cassino playing and background music cutting out I asked again to be greated with" we havent got any money"

 

ok on the blower to the Dj who passed it on.Was told to give it 5 mins and then pack away my gear.

 

During this time I had to blagg the leccy with an extention from another sorce.

 

No joy with cash so starts to pack down....groom comes up and says" we left the money at home Ill use the cash out of the gift cards".

 

so after 5 mins of envelope ripping I got paid ..leccy was fine and all seams well.

 

10pm comes and....Cassino girs says "Im off me lifts here" so I had a full cassino table to move off the dance floor on me tod.

 

Apart from all that it all went well and ended up a good night.

Personally, I would not have moved the table on my own.

I had to move it fella,It took up most of the dance floor.

Agree with Dan on not moving the table - leave it to venue or bridal party.

 

What if you'd injured yourself or damaged the table?

 

I do understand you needed the night to move on, but it does put you in a difficult position.

exactly,I phoned the Dj who passed it on and told him not to pass on any more with cassino.

Sorry, but its more fool you to do something like that, all your doing is actually encouraging :cense: who do the bookings for casino type nights to set up cheap then bugger off until the next day. Chances are, they earned more than you anyway. Always make sure your intentions and what you willl be prepared to do. It seems your problem was with the DJ who accepted the booking then shafted you.

True but what can you do when you are full time and need to make the rent ect.

Have to agree with others that to move the table was wrong.

 

The trouble is as DJ every one thnks dj is incharge of everything

 

What you should have done is speak to the venue staff and get them to move it

 

there is a big reason why and that is has you moved it you are now responcerble for it.

 

and therefore your PLI is at risk should someone injury themself's or even worse you do.

 

I often go to a club and there's the pool tabe which is on wheels in the middle of the table it is so easy o move it but I don't as I don't know where to move it etc if a lady from the bar comes and tries to move I will ask do you want any help as you can assit as you are then on the venue's PLI.

 

This is just advise not having a go just something to remember for the future for your safety and PLI.
