I am just wondering whether or not you put up prices yearly or with inflation or when things like petrol prices go up.

Mine goes up yearly and a slight increase when petrol goes up

Yearly for me - I review my pricing in April.

Bookings taken now, for example, for a date later in 2009 will be priced at today's prices, so the pricing structure applies for bookings at the time they are confirmed, not necessarily for the time of the performance.

An exception would be an event booked 2 or 3 years ahead (hasn't happened yet) where I would estimate the price increase.

As soon as I get an enquiry for a date in the next year, I quote a price with an increase for inflation/increased expenses, plus the fact I have a year more experience and there's more demand for my services, as referals are exponential.. and the leads due to various marketing and advertising I do tend to follow that trend as well.

My price for new enquiries next year has actually gone up quite considerably due to the above and me buying a new van. Though I'm still honouring a "inflation increase only" price for repeats and referals, which I think is a fair way to do it.

None of the above.

If the option where there I would vote "When I feel I'm worth more".

This may be after changes to improve my service, improvements in my performance (eg new skills learnt), or new equipment that I feel makes my show worth more.

Yeah, I put my prices up recently as I have a load more kit now and I dont need the work as much, so can make sure each gig is worth it!

Yes, prices have gone up for both over the past couple of years as we provide a more complete and professional service.

I've been guilty of having the same prices for a couple of years untill around twelve months ago as I always thought I knew what people were willing to pay and prefered to quote an average price to fill the date.

Most of this year I have been steadily raising my fee on a per event basis and i have now set my fees to a price i feel i'm worth rather then concentrating too much on what the guy down the road is doing and so far this is working well, Infact I'm hoping to get a suffiecent amount of quality gigs that will allow me to take/afford a Saturday off a month or maybe even the weekend as it is too easy to work yourself stupid in this industry.

I intend to carry on in this fashion and will increase my fees per year taking basic increases and inflation in addition to increasing the profit margin in a bid to keep the business moving forwards.

I've been inching my prices up all year round. I keep thinking that eventually i'll bottom out....but it hasn't happened yet. And I've just come back from a meeting tonight where i've quoted my highest price ever cus i didn't really want it....and got it!

So that should mean you just raise your prices by inflation then? Else you're actually earning less each year... unless of course you increase your profit margins by the rate of inflation, or more, each year.

  • 4 weeks later...

most of my work is ressys and are priced depending on how much the venue can afford to pay out of their bar take !!!

rises can be whenever i think im making the venue more money on a regular basis not just a 1 off good night

as for private work again my pricing can vary depending on weather the client is looking cheep and chearfull or a bit more

these prices havent changed for the past 2 years but feel that maybe next year will put them up a little as costs to myself are rising

I put mine up every year and not had one complaint yet.

Got some weddings booked for 2010 and had to charge the rate i will be charging in that year.

For a basic local disco its normally £300 but for the ones in 2010 i have charged £350.
