I've had my JBL PRX12Ms and 18Ss for about 18 months now...that's a record for me, prior to that my main sound system was Bose and prior to that it was DAS...both of them only lasted about a year :D

I do on average about 200 jobs per year so without checking I have completed about 300 jobs with the JBLs give or take 10%. I have the tops in Gig Skinz bags and the bins under Custom Covers and they still look and sound new, they have never missed a beat and even after being worked hard the heat sinks are cool to the touch. They are made of ply and light...I think 22kg for the tops and 30kg for the bins, excellent carry handles on the bins but only one pouch type handle on the top of the 12s...they are easy to put on poles though. The 12s have dual pole mounting plates so they can be mounted at an angle which is useful in some circumstances. I got some chrome poles for £30 which I think finish off the look. The textured paint finish is extremely hard wearing and the rap round grills look good and stylish with light up JBL/Crown badges on the front, there is also a layer of acoostic foam behind the grills to protect the drivers from dust etc. the Crown XTI built-in amps are amazing and the DSP is really good, it does some very clever stuff that keeps the sound sweet.

As for sound...well that's what sold them to me, the top end is bright but not at all offensive on the ears, the mids are clear and well defined and the bass awsum...one of my favourite tricks is when I go to a particular local venue to use Sand Storm as a sound check and make the venue lights go dim, I also really pizzed off the girls from a casino company last summer as everytime they stacked the chips I knocked them over with bass. The system is 2k RMS, forget the SPL...something like 135 on the tops and 138 on the bins but it goes like a much more powerful system. However, it sounds really nice and rich and smooth when playing low level back-ground too.

I compared these with Logic System Audio, RCF, QSC, Turbo Sound, EV, DAS and Yorkville and also OHM BR and MA Black Line passive systems with EVdigital amps and there was no contest for me...so anyone want to spend about £3,200 on a good all round 4 box active system you must listen to this one first.

Well at least they aint powered by DC from some amp cobbled together in a mad scientists shed...lol. Sorry Steve Couldn't resist :D

Must come clean though...tonight one of the 12s went **** up on me, its giving out a kind of hissing crackling noise best described as being like interference from a CB radio. I gave Kev a ring and he thought it sounded like a dry joint so they're off to him for sorting and I had to use my Sky Tech 15 actives as that's all I had on the van. Tomorrow and Sunday I shall use my Mackey C300s driven off an Audio Head AH1400 and the JBL bins...not much better than the Sky Techs but needs must and all that...Guess it'll teach me to post about how good something is

I still think they are fabulous...like you say it happens and they have been a work-horse and never missed a beat up to now.

Just goes to show... one mans brilliant sound, is another mans not so brilliant!

I listened to the prx range in Bolton few weeks ago, not that impressed..

No way will it ever be better than my BR18's and BR10's set up IMO

But they were decent, dont get me wrong, much lighter in weight too, but just didnt have the "proper punch" that ive heard from the BR range and martin audo 18/12's

But its all down to opinion, mixer and source quality plays a big part in all of this.

As you know Jeff, I went to see Clive with a mate and listened to the BRs and never liked them, however, my mate bought a pair of 18 bins, 15s and a pair of 12s...all BRs, but he still didn't think it had the punch of the PRXs so went and bought another pair of BR18s and still isn't totally happy and he is running them off 3x3k EV digital amps and a Cleo. I used to have F12s and S15s too and ran them off a Lab and an EV an M3 and there is no way they touch the PRXs.

Well...I couldn't be bothered to swap the kit over in the van today so ran with the Sky Tech 15 actives which cost me £218 brand new and the PRX bins. I couldn't get it to sound the way I wanted it to in the Church earlier on but everyone else was happy enough...just me being over fussy:D But, for the evening I had 160 folk and at times I pushed it pretty hard and it actually surprised me...it was a lot better sound than I thought it would be.

My wife dropped my poorly speaker off at Kev's house for me tonight so hopefully it won't be long till I have it back.
