The Last Time You Was Invited To A Party.

Recommended Posts

Been doing this for 6 years now and never get invited to parties no more (unless i'm working).

I want to.....1)DO the CHA CHA SLIDE.

2)Ask the DJ for the Red Hot Chilli Peppers when the dance floor is full of old ladies.

3)Tip my drink in the DJs amplifier.

4)Ask th DJ for that song with HELLO in the middle and get cross when he doesnt understand!!

5)Be given a free Glostik.

6)Murder a Karaoke song and expect to be put straight back up again.

7)Dance a whole slow dance with my partner without having to dash off 45 secs from the end.

I never get no invites from family and friends no more....they just expect me to work for nothing or cheap....Do you suffer the same??

I f you're in Yorkshire can you help me please???Invite me to your party!!!!!!!

Ill do family discos for nothing, but will usually stick a cd on and leave it for most of the night and then work the last bit when people want to dance so i can mingle!

What do you all do with friends parties, cheap, free, same price? Dont do them?!

I'm doing my sisters wedding in 3 weeks time .. for free of course. My laptop / roadie will be in charge of the playlist and i'll have the radio mic.

Luckily she has a guitarist on too so I don't have to work all night.

Thanks ... Dave

I went to an 18th last night... DJ was awful.. set up would of being alright if he had heard of cable ties. No concept of music at all apart from dance.

I heard Darude - Sandstorm four times to!

But the highlight of the night had to be his light boxes.... complete with traffic light sequence.... they were off all night then for the last two songs they were switched on.

So a sh!e experience!

Thats one thing I hate about djing.

You never know who is out there taking notice.

If I had a dj in the audience I would rather he/she came up to me and said "......................" and pointed me in the right direction rather than just sit there and whinge later :( .

If it helps me to get better Id appreciate all comments and hints .

I know I am not perfect but i think I do a good job.

Am I alone int this thought ????

DOnt get so many invites as I used too.

I think it because people know that Friday and Saturday nights are my work time and the chances are if they ask me to come the answer will be no as Im working.......so they just dont bother asking anymore LOL

Kaz......I would have come to your party, but alas Im working!!!

went to 50th, should have been doing disco but they had in-house Dj who was teribble - this was just my own opinion

I was sat with my wife and every record was cut after 1 minute never heard a full song

First 90 minutes were mixes, this was so the birthday boy could mingle.

I did wonder what the other guests were going to do whilst he did this.

There was no announcement for the buffet

There was no request for the birthday boy (it by the way a surprise party) to say thanks to his wife and family for setting it up and also to friends past and present

On a positive note I did manage to give out several cards has it was mentioned that I did disco's

Lets say that no one will be booking that venue for there do

Jacqi had even supplied the Dj with some requests has they are both Northern Soul fans

We got main stream motown

Were looking for -

Teddy Pendergast

Bessis Banks

Otis Clay

Al Wilson would have been good

or

any Wigan Pier

ill defend DJ's on the Northern Soul thing, but maybe its a Southerner th ing

not alot of people know what it is, its essentially rare soul from the 60's. Im biased slightly as my dad is into it big time and runs a local Northern Night, but most DJ's down here dont seem to know what it is!

(maybe its different up north?)

1. you take your own cards with you and hand them out on a night out with the wife ? Sounds like you were out looking for work.

2. you say that nobody will be booking that venue for their parties, why not ? do you have to book the in house dj ?Perhaps birthday boy has asked for no announcements and mixed music ?

3. who is jacqi ?

4. sorry to be a pain but i must admit it really does wind me up when djs start to criticise other djs. Sounds like sour grapes to me.

I will try anything,once!

Point 1 - I always carry cards in my wallet and was asked by several people for one,

Point 2 - yes you do have to have the in-house dj, has they asked if they could have there own and was told no.

Point 3 - this happens to be Birthday boys wife

Point 4 - not sour grapes, more quailty of the performance. Maybe you had to be there to undetrstand the comments made. I too have suffered the DJ who knows best syndrome. We probably all have at some.

Any way it time to look forward to Halloween and then party season plus my birthday

do people leave home without business cards? On the rare occasion that im not working and go out, i see people i know and am constantly asked for cards etc

I carry cards too, I bet everyone does.

When you see people you "know" surely they can contact you without using a card??? tongue out icon

I think that what we were getting at was the sheer ammount of times DJ's on this forum have seen others work that are pants and have to shout about it. How many times have we seen DJs saying "I went to a party, realy enjoyed myself and the Guy working was superb!!" NEVER!

And it's that which wind many of us up.........
