Last night, i went to my friends party and the DJ was using a Homemix CD1 http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/fear.gif

A while back I thought one of those would be ok as a backup, it is small dont take up much room , but after 4 replacements all faulty I gave up.

I have seen DJ's using worse .. one I seen was using

2 of D*x*ns own brand £20 quid ghetto blasters with no mixer, they just wired to a home amplifier's multiple inputs .

Thing is no one there (punters) http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/smile.gif seemed to bother what he was using,

makes you wonder why spend lots of £££ keeping up to date with Pro? equipment http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/laugh.gif

Sounds like your taking the mickey DJFactory.. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/bash.gif Could quite possibly have been he was using his back up, did you not say somewhere earlier that you too had a homemix!

I met a dj who's Numark one developed Gremilns during a disco and he had one of these in his car for back up, it worked, it done the job and it got him out of a hole and I doubt that anyone would of noticed what he was using anyway, as I didnt until I went up to talk to him!!

Hmmmm... who are we to mock other djs for there equipment! If the punters are happy and on the dance floor, Im sure they couldnt give a to$$ about what type of equipment the dj uses... as long as it works and is safe. Reminds me of a DJ who was working "the other room" at my resident hotels sister hotel (!).... he charges £50 less than me and puts in shed loads of uneccessary equipment.... bass bins the lot in a room no bigger than 25 x 25! He sent his roadie in to take pictures of my small show for the small room I was working! Whilst he was smuggly poo-pooed the amount of equipment I had put in my room! A typical "my show is better than your show" attitude...... but..... who was off home leaving him and his TWO roadies still doing the leads at the end of the night! Proving the point, it aint what you got - its what you do with it! One day he might get to see my big show!

Hi dj nammu i know you say your a novice but in some posts you say you have a 10k rig and offer advice to others about being a good dj yet you can not see from a pic that the homemix is a combined cd player and mixer all in 1 and is very cheep and tacky but ok for back up or home use but not for use as a pro some times i do not understand you and dont really know how to take you mate http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/533.gif

Nammu are you for real??. In one post you state clearly that you are the owner of a 10k P.A Rig (A very specialised piece of kit in any country and something that around only 5% of D.J's would own) yet you fail to recognise (With a picture and link) what a "Homemix is"???.

Diffrenciation of individuals and diffrenciation of areas will always cause a diffrenciation in mindsets my friends. It is true that I own some equipment that might be very special for you but is very ordinary for me, but there are somethings that we people have never heard of! Denon's and Gemini's are pretty popular here and cent percent the models we use are the models that were scrapped by the companies long back. Things like Numark and Homemix we have Never Ever heard of, and I had understood as to what these are but I did not understand the concept as to why one should be used whereas the other should not, and that too I have learnt.

Look I have performed only two gigs till date and they were by-chance gigs. I just happened to have my cd's in my vehicle and the DJ just happened to feel sick or go on immediate leave. I played and I played well, and was very popular and still am, but from the time I registered on this forum and for a long time to come, I shall remain a novice always learning and always willing to learn more from all the experianced people like you, although I am ever ready to offer some advice from my knowledge to beginners and budding DJ's bcos I know how it feels when you have a passion for DJ'ing and when you dont have the money to join a professional DJ course or for that matter dont want to spend on a DJ course and want to learn all on your own, and you find a forum where everyone, EACH AND EVERYONE is willing to help. I have my experiances and some knowledge that I shall always use to help budding DJ's blossom into the perfect DJ's while still learning myself now and ever more...

nammu - there is no right or wrong with dj-ing - everyone has their own way of doing things and we are all unique (hopefully!). I think maybe people on here are a little confused by you as you have posted that you have stood in for a couple of djs - collecting your cds from your glove compartment of your car - and as has already been said, you stated that you had a 10k rig. Perhaps its just a little difficult for any of us to understand how a complete novice could own a 10k rig but be able to keep their cd collection in their glove compartment! Perhaps you meant that when you stood in as DJ the rig you used was 10k - but here it would be very unlikey that such a large event (as it would be considered here in the uk if a 10k rig was used) would let a complete novice take to the controls! We are not knocking you, we all have to learn - but maybe sometimes your exuberance for dj-ing gets a little carried away in some of your statements!

Hey Many many thanks for understanding me, but ill make one thing clear here. I had a Denon mixer, Player, remote, tripple flash Disco Lights, Studio Master Editor alongwith 10000 watts of Speakers. Close to a 10K rig and Due to financial constraints I had to sell it off. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/wallbash.gif I retained my CD collection though and stored it in da attic and as I am absolutely mad abt DJ'ing I kept making more CD's but still the realization of not being able to afford to go to a Professional DJ college had me brooding all over da place as I wanted desperately to be a DJ but despite having the equipment I never learnt as I said due to finance problems. Then I saw this forum quite by accident on some search engine and Idd say I was the luckiest person http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/thumbup.gif . I got my CD's out from da attic and kept them in my vehicle for getting the case changed and co-incidently had the chance to use them In my first show. Next tiime I kept them in my vehicle was to buy more cd's of the same brand and there was my second show. I'd Say Co-incidences do happen. Ever since my cd's are in my car for any more "by-chance" gigs or even booked ones. I have also started getting orders for CD's and Gigs so ill be settiing up my equipment again and this time for a mobile Disco! Any tips for Mobile Disco's Anyone??????

Take care and merry http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/newyear.gif

I've just blown my Homemix CD1 and replaced it with a proper set up (KAM mixer and Soundlab CD). Yeah I'll agree that the Homemix is probably a bit below entry level but hey it got me started!

Yes...fate can be a useful ally sometimes http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/smile.gif

I don't know of anybody in this area who uses a "Homemix" for professional use, but I do know of a local D.J who uses two under £59 Hi-Fi CD Decks for the last 2 years and it doesn't seem to have affected his business - as long as it plays music and is reliable, then it comes down to personal choice and budget, and whether you are willing to take a gamble.

I have posted this before, but I do get asked from time to time regarding the difference between hi-fi and Professional Dual CD players, and if you subtract the additional features (which you may not need anyway) of the more expensive players around then it does become a tempting option to go with 2 cheaper hifi players rather than one dual CD.

The main difference between DJ Players and hi-fi ones, is the internal build quality and tray loading system. Your average Akai or Sony CD Player is designed for domestic use and for loading of Compilation or Album CD's and playing through it. It is not designed for constant playing of one track and then ejecting, loading another, playing it, ejecting it, loading another, etc etc.

If you think about how many times you load a CD at a Disco - and then eject it, and then mulitply that by the number of gigs that you do, then you poor little Samsung bargain, has done 3 years of "Domestic" use in 6 months!.

Since domestic equipment is sold for domestic use, you will technically invalidate your warranty if you push it beyond its design capabilities (And manufacturers CAN tell if you have been using it professionally).

There are other features that you may find useful on the DJ Players, such as Anti-Shock which are not included on domestic ones.

With the price of Dual CD's falling all of the time, there really isn't that much difference between 2 Hi-fi CD's and a professional player, certainly no enough to take a risk, especially if you are new to the industry and trying to build up a good reputation, you really don't want CD problems at this stage.

Chris, I'm well pleased with my latest purchase from you (Soundlab). As i've said the homemix was below entry level but one of the worst things was the amount of skip. That was one of the things that I was looking for in a new CD player (anti-shock). There's nothing worse than loads of kids jumping about to Busted on a sprung gym floor!!!!
