Liscio 0
Turned my kit on today to show a couple of mates my new PCDJ set up and smoke starts coming out of one of the CD drawers, cut the power, disconnected it and turned the rest of the kit on and its all fine. WHat could have caused it? If I open the casing, what should I look for apart from the obvious? THe CD Decks are CDN88s, can I buy a replacement pair or spare parts from anywhere? THanks in advance Liscio Discotheques 60s - Current In Surrey & Home Counties www.liscio.co.uk

superstardeejay 0
If I open the casing, what should I look for I don't know...how good at electronics are you!?! A good start would be to find the thing that's actually smoking. It could be any component, and it might smoke either because it's faulty or because it's been blown by something else first..ie another component that's failed but hasn't smoked. Inspect the pcb visually to see if anything looks overheated..then act accordingly! Its likely to be the power supply, so check mains connections>transformer>rectifier>smoothing>regulators>decoupling caps. Then check the power components eg spindle servo ic/sled servo ic/drawer motor drive. After this you're after small components in various circuits dotted throughout the machine. I assume nothing's been spilt in it!?! :usa: .

scrooge 0
Is there anyway something could have crawled into it? I had an old video pop once that smoked and smelled pretty bad. A spider had crawled in and shorted the main power supply diode. Made a right mess of it, but was able to replace it. The diode that is not the spider.
