After What Norfolk Dj Said...

Recommended Posts

Thinking about what Norfolk DJ (Rob) said in another thread about not being asked for Pet Shop Boys tracks....what music or albums do you have that you rather like, but are never asked to play? smile icon

I like all sorts of stuff that never get asked for, such as Jean-Michel Jarre, John Lennon, The Verve, Gypsy Kings, the Pet Shop Boys and A-ha to name but a few...and of course, the musical version of War of the Worlds is a classic album of great tracks that never get asked for!

I could confess here to liking tracks which would probably be considered very 'cheesy' today...you never know, I just might reveal if tempted!!!

What's yours?

I like all sorts of diverse and weird and wonderful stuff, both old and new that would never be played at an average wedding. For example, some gems

The Mobiles - Drowning in Berlin

The Specials - Ghost Town

Department S - Is vic there

And when was the last time you heard the likes of:-

Z8eDIZEnQHo

sDLRlMLwNIY

Music seemed to lose the plot around about then, but amazingly they were all hits in their time and then faded to nothing. But they were good times.

And do you remember this, they were more camp than two of the Village People but it was a huge hit and was nearly always played on 'The hit man and her' , then they never really had follow up which was anywhere near as big. Sadly they both died in a Car accident in 1996

I also like dance music too, and often listen to the likes of PVD. Told you it was a diverse taste :D . Possibly I get fed up so much of playing the cheesy stuff that I like relaxing to the obscure stuff that everyone has forgotten.

London Boys, I have'nt heard this one for years. Still stands up today, gonna try and sneak it in this weekend somewhere. The only request I can remember for them was sometime last year for London Nights.

Never knew they had died though, and sadly both had children as well.

Dire Straits smile icon

Try Walk of Life. It goes quite nicely with Mavericks and can be a useful rescue track

You mean you never play Forever Autumn through your L1's. I try and slip it in whenever I can it sounds great. It's surprising how many people start singing to it while they're eating.

As for myself I like everything from the 50's to the 90's and yes that includes stuff like the early Cher, Shakin' Stevens through to St. Etienne and Republica.

I'm talking about what never gets asked for!!!! Not what I might play in my own time or 'slip in' !!

Besides, why would I want to use the L1s in doors?!

But you've given me an idea! Why not start a topic on 'What personal choice tracks do you slip into the set?'. I bet that might be an eye opener! smile icon

Ah, songs I love that I can't play...

Sex Pistols - Bodies

Offspring - Walla Walla

Whale - Hobo Humpin Slobo Babe

The Cult - Outlaw

Muse - Knights of Cydonia

Elastica - Vaseline

The Vines - Get Free

U2 - The Electric Co (Live)

I could go on for some time with guitar based rock so I'll show my calmer side...

Anything from Les Mis (awesome, awesome, awesome!!!)

Pachelbel - Canon

Stanley Myers - Cavatina (from Deer Hunter)

Army of Lovers - Crucified

Madness - E.R.N.I.E.

That's triggered some memories! Time to open the green CD case...the one that never gets taken to gigs!

anything (and i mean anything) at all by Carter USM. Love them - have consistently carried 4 albums with me - never been asked for anything.

Have to content myself with a sound check once in a while to Bloodsport for alll

Weezer, Matchbox 20, Weezer, Gin Blossoms, Weezer, Fastball, Weezer, Green Day, Weezer, Rilo Kiley, Weezer, Michael Nesmith, Weezer, Jim Croce, Weezer, Rivers Cuomo, Weezer, Colin Hay, there are so many, and did I mention Weezer?

In a way though I'm almost glad that I don't get asked for these artists (or not often anyway). I have found that this job ruins certain songs that I used to enjoy hearing but, due to overkill at work, I can't bear to listen to anymore.

I'm a DJ based in Northern Ireland with nearly 10 years' experience offering a range of services. Including club residencies, karaoke, pub quizzes, specialised wedding service, Master of Ceremonies, Compere, Night at the Races and much more.

Army of Lovers - Crucified

They've just had the chance to play this song, Kris Kross (Jump) or ZZ Top (Viva Las Vegas) on Moyles' Radio 1 show. They all laughed/groaned at the Army of Lovers! Nobody chose it.

Kris Kross won the vote.

Some people have no taste.

Absolutely, bloody brilliant. It's like a cheap version of Prince Charming with a gay Adam Ant and a younger Diana Dors.

I seem to remember there was another girl involved somewhere - similar looking...asset-wise. But she was booted out for some reason. However, neither of these busty beauties actually sang on the song! I'm going to do some digging!
