Celestion have a fairly good track record and reputation. However like everything else as personal as sound, it will probably be a good idea to get a demo of them first and hear them for yourself.

Thats the problem with buying from the net, can't hear them before you buy!

Well I propose a revolutionary new idea........

Don't buy 'em from the net then  . Years ago, we had these things called shops, magical little brick buildings in towns which held various goods, in which we stepped and whenever we did so, we were served by Human beings and got to see, ask questions about, and in some cases play, with the physical things that we were interesting in buying :D , it was a huge help in making these decisions, because we then knew what we were buying, and got the opportunity in most cases to see several types, and compare them all. These places are rapidly vanishing, so its time to support the few that are left, and they are out there, dotted around most town centers.

The problem with the internet is, that if you do buy them online / mail order, and don't quite like the sound, or the shape / weight etc then its going to cost you a small fortune to send them back by carrier, and upon getting the bill for sending them back, is usually the point when you wished that you'd taken the time and trouble to audition them first.

By all means, ask for advice and opinions, but I wouldn't let somebody else spend £350 for 'me' :D , which basically is exactly what you are doing when you take a recommendation at face value and make a decision to purchase purely based on somebody elses opinion. We all often disagree with each other on nearly every other thread on various subjects, and we all hold differing opinions, so why would it not be applicable with Sound equipment too?, you already only have to look and read to see the huge diversity. What sounds good to somebody else, may be complete pants to your ears, thats personal opinion as much as anything else.

Thought about getting those myself last year but without hearing them first, which from experience I learnt the hard way, by the way, I demo'd some dbs instead and had them.

Yeah old celestions and njd have a good rep but sound is personal as said above, try b4 u buy is now my new moto LOL.

Is there any where to do this - Cardiff innit? Just to go off topic where are the dj shops in C'diff?

Sorry not much help really

I completely agree with both those comments... the only shop i know of, stocking equipment, would have to order a pair in, to hear.. usually when they order in, they expect you to buy them, which is understandable, if i decide i dont like them. I would take a listen to his in store stuff, but only seems to be stocking Kam and Soundlab etc.. lately :(

Any of these near to you?. (Remember £15 of fuel going to look at speakers is cheaper than a £40 carriage fee plus a lot of hassle repacking, and booking a carrier if you don't like what you've bought)

or

Merthyr Sound And Lighting

This is what a 10 second search threw up, spend a few minutes and you may find a veritable feast of emporiums to visit.

Loads of hire companies in your neck of the woods too, why not hire-before-you-buy?

i used to use celestion a long time ago - there was a factory shop near where i lived - and you could pick up the B stock at good prices which was great for DJing in home built cabs - made life affordable.

Loved the sound.

In my opinion Rolla Cellestion were band/guitar speakers and made in uk and v good sound. But that was years ago. They went under the name of Marshall.

As for taking a plunge off the net with reviews I did with a couple of grand and bought the R.C.F 515's as reviewd here but our v own EDD Bray and WOW what a sound. They are everything that he said they were and then some.

I don't know much about Celestion, but, as mentioned before, have seen it on a lot of band stuff (mainly guitar amps).

The only thing I would say is that I wouldn't buy any speakers without a published efficiency. The power handling doesn't tell you anything unless you know the efficiency of the speakers. I've got one pair of speakers that has a 300w power handling and one pair that has a 400w power handling and the 300w ones have a higher max SPL than the 400w ones.
