Wondered whether folk used business card sized request cards left in tables at functions which double up with contact details or paper sized ones.

Thinking of getting a load printed but might change my previous format

I personally have always opted out of using request cards for a couple of reasons;

Firstly, as pretty much all authors of DJ business books suggest; it is contact that makes the most clients. Every person you come into contact with at a gig or even during everyday life (like your hair dresser) is a potential client. Why would you choose to remove a potential initation of contact? I typically make a joke when they make request regardless of how good or bad it is all it takes is a "wow, are you serious? Well I'm blaming you if everyone sits down" of course must be said with a smile a good enthusiastic voice, but make your own conversation that your happy with. Then usually they will come back either to gloat playfully or to make another one, depending on how well their last one went down will be up to you. Even still it is still contact

Secondly, Its not hard to remember a short list of a couple of songs

Hopefully you might take on board what I have discussed, but by no means am I claiming to be the best solution. Just offer a slightly alternative perspective from my experience and readings.

All the best with it!

i understand what your saying but we have actually got a couple of bookings because of the request slips we put out,the other thing it is amazing the number of times a child under brings up a slip for some rock and roll or 60's music, we have to remember although we don't bite(often anyway ) not everyone feels comfortable to approach the dj

we use business card size,we get ours from vista print took our normal card and redisgned the back side to become a request slip.amazing how many come back and how many just get put in peoples pockets , a good investment in my opinion

I see, so you infact have a business card on one side and request slip on the back for people to either take or fill in then?

well on the front is a picture of our disco with the phone numbers at the top in small print on the back is the request slip with song title and artist these are placed on the tables request side up before the start of any function. they do not replace our business cards .which have a different back side with all our details on

I like that idea alot, placing them on tables before hand! Really like that idea! Might have to pinch it!

Do you go to the extent of having your own pens printed and put them with it? Or too far?

the problem with anonymous requests (the ones children get sent up with) are they tend to be innapropriate and they know it! Ie, a wedding, full dancefloor and youll always get a request for hard rock or hard dance music

yyou can ignore them when they are written down just like you can when someone ask's you for something, what we do in those circumstances(if there is time) wait till we lose the floor then put the request on that we don't think will work,you will be surprised just how many times it do work and will take the party in a totally different direction.sometimes you can afford to take a gamble and at the most all youve lost is one song and that was a request
