Hopefully I'm putting this in the right forum, apologies if it isn't. I have a Kam 5500 Karaoke player and apparently to run Karaoke from my laptop to it I need to first convert the tracks into another format (divx was mentioned).

So can anyone recommend the software (freebies if poss) to do it?

ok its hard to see what you want to do from your post..

i am guessing you have original CDG discs and you want to play the tracks on software you have on your laptop.

if thats what you want to do then that depends on the software you have

for example if you owned MTU's hoster then it has the ability to play CDG directly (no ripping) it has a ripper built in and a data base to label all the ripped tracks correctly it changes the file format from the raw bin file on the disc to its own dedicated file format (KMA)

if you had PCDJ , swift elite virtual dj etc they like karaoke files in the MP3+G format now to do this you need to rip the files from the discs with a tool such as ;

MP3+GTOOLZ

now some software will take the MP3+G and then convert it to a format it likes better i believe that OTSAV does this but i maybe wrong ..look at there support forum if you own this software.

PLEASE NOTE CONVERTING KARAOKE FILES MEANS YOU HAVE TO GET PERMISSION FROM THE MANUFACTURER (zoom and laughing Gnome have given us permission to convert as long as you own the originals)AND ALSO LOOK AT THE PRO DUB LICENCE TO SEE HOW THAT APPLIES TO YOUR SITUATION.

Thanks for the reply Robster. Sorry I should have been more specific. I use SAM software for the DJ side, but I'm intending to just hook up the KAM player to the mixer and use it as a seperate unit. When the KAM scans the usb hard drive it recognizes my MP3's but not the CDG files on there. I spoke to another DJ and he told me to convert the tracks into DIVX format and the player will then see (and play) them as Karaoke tracks would normally be.

Basically I'm hoping to save myself a bit more space and work by backing up all the disc's and just using them from hard disc.
