Dj's United

I hope the Revolution has started

Hello there...god I didnt realise how many DJ's there were...gulp

Just to start off, what a great site, just reading some of the stuff on here and had two effects on me 1) I have a lot to learn and 2) I feel inspired to make it all work for me.

I am Dan by the way, freezing on to the side of a valley in Keighley ,West Yorkshire.

Well, I am just about to be made redundant from my sentence as a call centre supervisor/trainer...31 Dec is my last day...hoooorah.

Looking for a new start in life, with the dosh that my lovely (ex) employers are giving me to leave there premises for good. Having DJ'd an indie club in Blackpool in the early 90's, I kinda caught the bug....having a great time entertaining people with music, without having to shred your fingers on a string, or trying to do Keith Moon impressions http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/wallbash.gif

After doing that for a year (and earning the majestic sum of £520 in total), I stopped doing it (it was ruining my records...man)

But since then I have done occassional parties, weddings etc (just hiring the gear) and doing it all for free. Too many people said that I was alright at doing it..and I starting thinking...mmmm http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/huh.gif

Did a big rock star wedding early this year in Ireland (for free) and kept people the rather large dance floor packed for what seemed a week (despite falling out with my mate who was helping me, coz I played 2 Bowie tracks in a row) http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/533.gif. so did this for 10 hours for free and I thought now I should start making money out of it.

Then all of a sudden, here come the redundancy money. So I rush out and buy (bye to good money some would say) all the equipment I think I need

So I say to my work,I'll do the Xmas do, which I did last week (my first paid event) ...and job was a good un.

Anyway...I am looking to make a living out of all this (tired of working for The Man) in between no doubt having to temp in offices around West Yorks for a bit.

Glad I found this site...you seem like a good gang of people.

Hope you all have a fruitful Xmas

Dan

Wayheyyyyy another Northerner, welcome to the forum, I knew there were more of us out there http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/smile.gif .

Remember, D.J'ing is what you make it, and there is always more stuff to learn, no matter how long you have been in business, which is one of the reasons why this forum exists.

Thats bad news, wouldn't be one of those moving to India would it??. Still at least you seem to be taking it as a positive step to a new and brighter future. Good Luck - if we can offer you advice then we will.

The main problem for us "northerners" is that we have trouble typing on a keyboard.........what with having ricketts and dyptheria, being bitten by ferrets and whippets, our flat caps falling in front of our eyes, etc etc !
