tezandbaz 0
hello all, I was looking through the loft the other day for a piece of computer equipment for a repair, could not find it but i did see a magazine laying on the rafters(no not that sort) it was a disco international mag dated 1981 october in fact,i could not help thumbing through the pages to see how things had changed, firstly there seems a lot more retail outlets selling equiptment to the budding dj-er and any body else who would like to part with there money. the thing is that the prices charged then for a peice of equiptment is largely on par for what you would pay these days for a comparative peice of stuff in 2009 any way from that publication here is the top kit that the readers voted in a poll(yes another poll) top speakers...................... squire d100 top chasis.......................... Mc kenzie studio range top amplifier...................... H||H v range top mic............................. sure unispere B lighting controller...............pusar zero m2 3000 top mixer..........................citronic range top cartridge...................... stanton al 500 top console........................ citrnic thames top effect .......................... manhattan fogger top club effect ................... kremesa range top innovation .................... Ni-an dwarf speakers any surprises there,do you remember any of this kit, have any body still got some i wonder, two old codgers who at our age should know better.(G7AJG)

Norfolk DJ 0
Bloody Hell!!! Get me my pension book, how old do I feel?? I would love to read that mag, I probably had it at the time, but it has long since gone. I used to buy the magazine frequently in the 80's. I bought a Citronic Avon from new in 1984 and it was used frequently until January 2002. Not bad ehh for 18 years use!
DJ Ramon 0
That mag takes me back, I made my second deck from a picture of a citronic Avon in it, the deck had twin bsr turntables and the deck surround was covered in cheap wood effect sticky back plastic, it also weighed a ton and started to fall apart after two gigs. I'm still using a proper Citronic Isis deck, so their built quality was some what better than mine!
McCardle 1
wasn't it the Isis which featured the legendary auto-cue feature? where you just placed the stylus onto the vinyl and watched whilst the deck automatically found the cue point "The voice of the devil is heard in our land" 'War doesn't determine who is right, war determines who is left, and you wont win this war.' McCardle 1
I've also got an Abstract Syncro-Scat from around 1991, I think that this was Abstracts debut lighting effect and which also brought about the first intelligent lighting effect to the budgets of the mobile Dj "The voice of the devil is heard in our land" 'War doesn't determine who is right, war determines who is left, and you wont win this war.' Dream Catchers 0
I remember buying Disco International. One feature I seem to recall is an article about Bruno Brookes' set up, that was before he started at Radio 1. Jim
RichardP 0
Yep, similar to that list, started out with an H|H VX450 amplifier, Pulsar Zero 4000, Citronic Hawaii Mk.IV, later going on to buy a Citronic SM450 mixer ! All rock solid stuff, felt really dependable! Not so sure about the general feel of current kit :)

I have just purchased the Citronic Thames II as a bit of nostalga but as for the lighting I collect and restore it.. Check out the vids on Youtube search Lampo ufo then you see some of my collection .. I preferred the Squire XL range, oh what a shop at Blackstock Road, Tuffnell Park those were the days when the latest effect would set you back over a grand, I paid £1200 for the citronic Tamar in 1984. Dream Catchers 0
When I used to hire gear from HW Audio in Bolton in the late 70s I prefered the HH amps and speakers. I've been thinking of some of the other kit I had, my favourite light unit was a "Compacta" 4 channel unit, at the time it was an all singing all dancing unit. I thought my mixer was a Citronic SM330 from memory, but when I've looked on the net the SM330 is totally different from the one I had. From memory mine was a 19" possibly 4u size, had a couple of mic channels and 4 main channels, it also had twin VU meters (needle type not LED) in the middle, it had a seperate PSU too. Can anybody remember what model it was? Jim
