Have to agree, although i miss that "hands on" effect with vinyl and CD.

Ive just spent nearly 2 grand on Laptop, controller,2.5tb hexternal hard-drive and a turntable to convert my old 45's.

This CD Jock, for the time being is labelling herself as a "Old school" dj, playing all your favourite songs of yesteryear on CD, live mixing all the way.

But then unlike most the disco part of my business is very small. . . so I am able to stay with this soon to outdated format and stick my heels in the ground over produb. I love the feel of a cd, and looking through the insert booklet. . . it will be a shame to lose them. I love looking through my collection and finding a gem, i haven't heard in ages. . . Ipods etc, will never have the same appeal to me.

So glad I was born when I was being brought up in the techno era. I will always move with the times and am always eager to see new advances in technology. My father can't even set the video to record a TV program. Then again, if he moved with the times he wouldn't even use tapes.

I just bought a 19" Rack mount SD card player...Exellent and I love it....Im even building a console around it as the main feature.

Which SD player did you buy?

With regards to Will Young - his single(s) will probably end up on a Now Album anyway so they'll be available on CD that way... although you'll have to wait a few months!

I'm still on a mission to collect the entire Now back catalogue....

I note theres teh SDJ2 out as well.. which accepts SDHC cards and also has mixer / crossfader etc. built in, although you can use it without as it also provides separate phono outputs for each deck.

I don't wanna start a massive ProDub debate, but it does annoy me that CD singles are being phased out, as I've got a huge collection on CD, and really enjoy DJ'ing this way, though obviously on the lookout for a laptop still as mentioned in another post..

What's frustrating is where to buy legal MP3 downloads for DJ use, as I've heard Itunes et al aren't licenced for DJ use?

I'm happy to pay for all the tracks, and in fact have many legal downloads, but it's still annoying to have to pay again to burn it onto a CD to play at a gig..

Just bought a load of CD singles as it's a headache to go the download route for me at the moment..

Where do you all get your legal downloads from?

Mike

I think that's just blurb from days gone by to be honest. All my Hard House and Trance records have this wrote on but the scene wouldn't exist without DJs playing them in clubs.

It's not like iTunes are gonna turn up at your gig. Even if a pro-mug inspector turns up they have no authority to search through your equipment. It's a doomed to fail unworkable license, don't stress over it.

Don't want to go off topic here, but out of interest, if CD DJs end up being forced to buy their music by download once the CD single breathes its last, then burn their downloads to CD, will they then require a pro-mug dub licence for format shifting?

To answer your question Mike, I buy all my downloads from Amazon now. Their pricing is reasonable, in fact they have lots of tracks at 59 and 69p now. Some are only 29p. And ALL mp3, no DRM.

My understanding is that they would. Disgusting.
