You will need help moving these about - and upstairs gigs will be difficult. Don't think you can easily carry 50Kg on your own - you'll end up seriously hurting yourself. I've not heard them, but as they have similar spec (and "INT 252")to the others, they will probably sound similar. I think the advice about lower cost lights is good, getting a usable PA is important. I've gone from Passive to Active speakers, and there are some clear benefits. If you go active, you can always add a sub later- if you need one. The actives will give some level of backup- assuming both don't go at once! With the Amp you're looking at, and the INT 252's, you'll be close to £900 with cables. You should be able to get some good actives. ie makie 450 V2 @ £895; http://www.whybuynew.co.uk/Pair-Mackie-SRM...n-2-Active.html Once you've done a few gigs, you can pay for an active sub if you feel you need it. I've used the Mackie as an example, obviously everyone has their favorites. I've recently brought a pair of 450 v2 and pair of active subs. The mackies have a low-cut filter, so they are not trying to produce bass - the subs do a good job of that! This means I have a true, 3-way speaker system - the sound is very nice and if I'm in a small venue the mackies are fine without the subs. (so less to carry!) Link to post Share on other sites

dj will 0 Posted March 4, 2009 Report Share Posted March 4, 2009 I have to agree with vokf, plus those speakers are a real pain to move about, even if you do have someone to help you. Just because speakers are twice as big doesn't mean that they will be twice as good or loud. There is a temptation to think that you will look great with huge speakers but you will look like a plonker when you can't carry them up the venue's three flights of stairs and have to ask for assistance. The mackies are 400w RMS compared to 500W RMS on the cerwin vega. Plus given the height of the cerwin vega speakers compared with the mackies on stands, which project very well anyway you will struggle to find much difference in sound. Plus the mackies weigh in together at 36kg, lighter than even one of the CV speakers. Link to post Share on other sites

Such a shame... I dont see how you equate actives being less reliable than one amp and two speakers. Both actives are independant of each other where a stereo sleve will have shared components you are more litley to have a full failure with one stereo slave than two actives... I tend to use the 450's for 99% of my gigs now and the CV is for the bigger gigs or for band PA then use the 450's as monitors.
