I don't watch Pop Idol so I don't know what I'm missing http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/rolleyes.gif , however I have seen the endless news coverage of it, like it was important (Don't we have any REAL news anymore??) and her photo seems to be in the Papers.

From what i've seen she's all woman!!!, big built, big attitude and more than likely a big mouth but I think i'm going to do a Pete Waterman........and walk away without comment http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif

How refreshing that somebody actually go through on their talent! No - shes no stick insect, but then again neither is aretha franklin, jocelyn brown, karen white etc etc etc - and look how long they've been around! Great that somebody has broken the sugary pop, fits nicely into a specified image mould!

WE LOVE KAREN, AND IT'S GREAT TO HAVE HER BACK !!!! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I think if she sticks to her own material she'll do well, as mentioned previous it's good to have someone voted on her voice. She reminds me very much of Alison Moyet from the 80's, big lady great voice all credit to her!!

hmmmmm, methinks if she was really that good she'd have made it the conventional way by treading the boards, doing gigs and working her way into the scene the way that nearly all good* bands/artists have for the past 50 years!

I ain't watched even a minute of any of those shows such as pop Idol, Fame Academy etc and have no intentions of changing that. I never buy newspapers either and have recently been so busy that I haven't seen any TV news for ages so have missed all this hype.... thankfully http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/smile.gif

*I did state GOOD, which obviously don't include such crap as Westzone, Boyslife, New knobs on the block, Will Gates, Gareth Young etc http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/rolleyes.gif

I'm glad your too old to enter! http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/014.gif

Give her 6 months and she'll be gone!!!

It's not very often that myself and Eskie agree on something, but I do agree with that sentiment. Manufactured Pop is likely to flood and eventually ruin the industry, in much the same way as those 14 year old Wannabe D.J's do for the rest of us!.

Yes, perhaps but they also had a little bit of talent as well, and in the 60's / 70's / 80's technology was not in existance to make people sound better than they are. I would really love to hear the participants of Pop Idol sing live on a pub karaoke or basic group p.a system, away from the £100,000 of Digital vocal Enhancing equipment used in TV studios!.

And wasn't Milli Vanilli proved to be dubbing somebody elses vocals over his records and miming on stage?.

As much as I agree with esk.... I still wouldnt mind becoming a multi millionaire for producing "crap" - Westlife (and boy I cant stand them) sell so many records that I think WE must be in the minority here. The paying public have ensured that they will never have to work after their "pop" career expires.

I did not think any of the final 12 did anything for me but if you did catch world idol the bloke from norway was something special http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/thumbup.gif imho i just hope she releases a pop song that can be played at a mobile gig rather that a ballad

Not completely true.

Their success is based on how they fare in the singles charts.

Singles are mainly purchased by teenagers (and DJ's http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif )

So just cos a record get's into the top 5 it isn't necessarily an accurate reflection on the country's taste! A lot of people in their 30's for example might like a certain record but never bother going and buying the single.

I Must give the BBC 4/10 for O.F.A.H this year http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/thumbdown.gif ...considering it was the last one (again!) that they will ever make, I did expect something better http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/wallbash.gif A deliberate attempt at sabotage methinks to stop us asking for another series!.

itv2 and sky+ allow me to watch only fools and horses as well, but to be honest u2 songs are very hard to do and he came very close to it imo

Howdy

I can't believe someone compared this woman with Eratha Franklin? The difference being Ms Franklin has a damn good voice. This pop idol winner, in my opinion, is no better than a good quality Karioke singer.

I've played in bands and worked with song writers so know a little about vocalists, and believe me her voice is nothing special.

She'l not last long, the pres will see to that.

Ahh Kurt Nilsen, yep he is in my neck of the woods and i agree he killed Beautiful Day,but having said that he has had 2 or 3 hits here and the guy can sing, play guitar, keyboard and he writes his own stuff too.So being ugly as well seems to be an advantage but i just thought they were all crap and i thought lisping wills performance was very limp!

I no longer buy singles, as I and other people have realised, that singles are ripping people off. More and more people are buying the Album's. Some places down here in Kent, a single would set you back 4.99 compared to a Album for 10.99.

The singles charts are'nt really a good way to base a artist/band's succcess, I find watching the tv music channels rundown a good indication, as these are what people requset and pay £1.50 for the track to be played.

Hi everyone ;-)

  • 4 weeks later...

I like her, and judging by the the reception her song gets when we play it so do many others, its one of our must plays now, almost a floor filler, but that must be because its still at the top of the charts, its a good last track of the night song too, the into is good for your thanks and safe journey speil and then its full swing.

The right choice was certainly made, the guy wasnt that good, and i am from brum, she had the best voice on the night.

I dont think that she will last as well as Will Young though, I hope I am proved wrong as I do like her.
