Can You Beat This....5 Years?

Recommended Posts

I am taking a holiday at end of May to Morocco.....partly as a little celebration.

I have had a sort of residency for 5 years providing a group of about 50 people in their 50's and 60's with a quiz, music and PYCR evening.....I am proud of that.

During that period I have provided 1040 hours of entertainment...2600 teasing quiz questions(general) and 2600 obsurish music clips.

This all came about one Sunday when a mate couldn't cover it.It has been worth about £16,000 to me after tax.It is a community We have our births and deaths and together we have even survived a change in venue.

Last night I reminded them of how long I have been doing it and suggested that they may like to find someone else.....They were horrified!!

So now we are going for the BIG 10!!

Can anyone beat that??

13 years at a holiday camp, 7 nights a week for 13 weeks per year

5 hours per night

7 x 5 = 35 hours per week

13 x 35 = 455 hours per season

13 x 455 = 5915 hours in total

so yes !

We all know how fickle Holiday Camps can be.

Any other offers of enduring business....might help others!!

Happy to divulge my secrets if there is potential for an evening like mine in your area.

Not personally and not in this industry, but I know of people within the NHS who work 60 hours+ per week on as little as £6.98 / hour who can work up upto 6 hours per week unpaid overtime, and have only been promised a 2.75% pay rise over the next 5 years. Instead of getting the praise they deserve they are also often abused and physically attacked by those who are worse for alcohol or the addicted trustees of modern chemistry

Not wanting to detract away from the topic or the impressive stats, but just wanted to add that there are heroes in all industries, some of whom, sadly don't get the recognition they deserve :( :nbow:

Exactly, you obviously enjoy what you do immensly and thats what its all about. I've always maintained that there is more to life (and enjoying life) than earning money alone smile icon . There are different levels and scales of playing the 'hero' in all industries and we all play our small parts.

Well done EBR, you can't beat playing to the oldies, some of my best gigs are the old swingers etc, they just go for it!

Enjoy what I do....you bet.

7 years ago I could walk down the street in my village and no-one would acknowledge me.As I have done functions for most in the village now I constantly get stopped for a chat.I do a lot of work for schools so I can hear the kidz saying....thats DJ Spinner (their nickname for me).

35 years ago I used to religiously write out the charts from Radio Luxembourg.I never imagined that people would be paying me £35 an hour to play the tunes I love.I never imagined that people would trust me with the entertainment for their special days.I never imagined that people could be so nice and complementrary about the services I provide.

Apart from being a 50 year old Porn Star.......I can't think of anything else I'd rather do!!

Mr Harris you only did a 35 hour week ;thumbdown: that is easy!!!!

When I started out on the holiday parks I was doing a 90 hour week which included day shifts and evening shifts all for the sum of £90....... :scared:
