Dukesy 0
If you never play the same song twice during a gig, why? Is it just something you feel is right, or something you've adopted or heard about? Also, if you are asked by guests at a function to play a song again, will you?
TonyB 0
I try not to but if asked I will. Usually it may be something I played early on as background music and it gets asked for again later in the evening when they are all dancing a bit more. Also if the client asks for a repeat, I'll usually say that I've already played it but if they want it again, I'll play it.
Norfolk DJ 0
A principle of mine is to avoid playing a song twice. However, if requested I probably would play it again.
BigBen 0
I've had mixed success with this. It's fallen flat on its face a couple of times, people look at you as if to say "...does he know he's already played this?" But it's also brought the place down. One particular night, an Irish wedding, I was told by the groom before the big day that I was not to play a particular Irish track as it is considered to be an anthem for one of the religions. Quite a few bevvies later he's asking me to play it. So I did. Almost the entire room filled the floor in a big circle, hand-in-hand. When it finished, and I was breathing a sigh of relief, the groom shouted "Put it on again!" So I did. Same reaction. I was out with the forum God, Chris P, one night. It was a wedding and they wanted to hear Spandau's Gold. First time it went down quite well, second time it brought the house down. [insert quirky comment]
deejaymitch 0
I remember when I first started out I was very strict about never repeating a track. I thought it showed some sort of weakness, either not having a big enough collection, or not having a broad enough knowledge to work the crowd with a variety of music, or both. These days I'm a lot more casual, for a variety of reasons. If the birthday girl wants her favourite song twice, she can have it. If I'm in a residency where a lot of people are coming in and out all night then the only people who are going to hear the song twice are me and the bar staff. I still try to avoid excessive repetition, but I'm a lot more flexible. I'm a DJ based in Northern Ireland with nearly 10 years' experience offering a range of services. Including club residencies, karaoke, pub quizzes, specialised wedding service, Master of Ceremonies, Compere, Night at the Races and much more.
digitaldistortion 0
Although it's not something that I would do per se, if someone asks, and 1) puts in a formal request(so that I can 'blame' them), and 2) agrees to dance 'centrestage' to the track, then I will do it! And it works quite well! Cheers! Roy B. Digital Distortion Disco (D3 Entertainments) See you around!

Thats entertainment 0
I hate to play the same song twice in the night but if asked to i tell them that i have played it before and ask them to name another song they would like to hear. If they still want the same one again i will play it but mention on the mic that its the second time around for this tune because mrs x missed it first time around! This way it stops that bloke coming up and saying "eh mate you played this already! http://thatsentertainment.webeden.co.uk Dj's and Discos for all your needs PLI & PAT covered Est. 1988
Dream Catchers 0
When I used to do pub gigs I sometimes played things two or maybe even three times during the night, it was always with a different crowd though as people tended to do a crawl rather than stay in the same pubs. On a couple of occassions with weddings, I have played something in the buffet break and then had a guest come up later asking for it again which I don't have a problem with. Kingy 0
I don't like to, but will if it's a very popular request or made by the person paying me.
UKHero 0
As above not keen but if its a good tune and requested and a reasonable time since it was last played then I will play it. Its their party at the end of the day not mine... Nik Edited March 21, 2009 by UKHero Niks Roadshow
kevvyb 0
I got asked to play about 3 songs twice over the course of my first gig. It was a 40th but ended up being more like a galaxy 102 dj or something just playing dance and RnB tracks,I dont like playing the same song twice but if it is requested i will!! I just got on the mic and told the crowd this song was a request from such a person just to cover my back!
