deejaymitch 0
I'm pretty sure we were all able to entertain our crowds before Lady Gaga came along, and we still will be long after she has been forgotten, so I don't think we owe her any thanks for keeping us in work. I'm fascinated as to where anyone got the impression that I wished to impose my morals or judgements on my audience, or that I didn't play artists I disapprove of? Unfortunately I play her rubbish regularly as many people enjoy it. I merely stated my personal opinion about her 'product' which, i thought, was the point of this thread. Although, from what C.S. has said, there must be some sort of training course I have to go on before I'm entitled to an opinion. Or do I need to buy a Pro Opinion License? dj_dex 0
Or do I need to buy a Pro Opinion License? Hee Hee! It depends on wether you intend to keep your opinion in it's original format, if you decide to transfer it to alternative formats, you will the Pro Opinion license as you would now have two copies of your own opinion! smile icon I'm amazed at how much traffic Ms GaGa has generated in this thread, as stated already EVERYONE is perfectly entitled to their opinions on Lady GaGa, but I never let my personal personal preferences stop me playing a customer request, it might stop me buying the track in the first place, but when something is requested frequently you've just gotta bite the bullet and give 'em what they want. The current dance music on offer is the worst I can remember, but you can't play Old Skool all night. As for Lady GaGa's appearance, is she really any less dressed than Britney, Xtina, The Pussycat Dolls? I think NOT! Like her or loathe her, the public will decide how long her career is. I totally agree with you. And I'm relieved that I won't need as I licence as, after watching some videos of her performing live, I won't be shifting my opinion. Although, as a side note, I never actually mentioned the way she dresses. I'm a DJ based in Northern Ireland with nearly 10 years' experience offering a range of services. dj_dex 0
Although, as a side note, I never actually mentioned the way she dresses. Sorry, I never intended to insinuate that you had, sometimes in forumspeak the written word doesn't convey what you really meant, especially when you don't type the words you mean. I guess I was really comparing the way she is marketed to the others and meant they're all pretty much the same, she's no worse, but no better either.

Its ok to have an opinion its just when its negative, and absolutely no help to anyone its probably better to keep it to ones self instead. I will try anything, once! The Cornish will arise again ! Its ok to have an opinion its just when its negative, and absolutely no help to anyone its probably better to keep it to ones self instead. The comment was tongue in cheek, that's why I put the smilies after it. But if you're determined to take offence, I won't lose any sleep. This thread, and the accompanying poll, asked for people's opinions about Lady Gaga. If everyone who had a negative opinion took your advice and kept it to themselves, then the thread, and poll, would be totally unrepresentative, wouldn't it? Robster 0
The public, our customers have spoken and have voiced there opinion with there wallets US pop star Lady GaGa's album The Fame has reached the top of the charts, while her single Poker Face remains in the number one slot. This comes days after the singer made US chart history by becoming the first artist in nearly a decade to top the US charts with her first two singles. There, the track took longer to reach top slot, lying in the charts for five months before going to number one. Her first single, Just Dance proved a big hit in the UK also. Flo Rida's album Roots (Route of Overcoming the Struggle) was the only new release in the top 10 this week making it to number five. Only By The Night by the Kings of Leon was a non-mover in second place, followed by Annie Lennox's The Collection at number three. Last week's number one, Ronan Keating's Songs For My Mother - released to coincide with Mothering Sunday - fell three places to number four. There were no new releases in the top 10 of the singles chart this week, although La Roux's In For The Kill, scraped in at number seven, after reaching number 11 last week. mikeyb 0
Pokerface has gotta be on of the most popular tracks currently, and having played it in a club, for me it's up there with show me love etc for floorfilling ability! Much like Just Dance (Gaga), it's also a crossover track, meaning it could be played from clubs to private parties if it fits. Being a good DJ IMHO is about playing music for the crowd, and not necessarily what you want to hear / like. I play songs I'm not a huge fan of sometimes, but it's just part of the job. This is why every gig's different and for me what makes it fun. Don't know about Gaga being the next Madonna, but I do think she's quite groundbreaking and has her own style. I don't see the similarity between her and Madonna anyway, I think it's great that an artist is causing discussion and has the ability to cause conflict in opinions - how many artists recently are so newsworthy? Maybe winehouse, duffy, dizzee rascal? I hope for more music from her and anyone else who's got their own style and ability to break through. BigBen 0
This has got to be one of the closest polls we've ever had on here! If you've not voted...get casting! Can't argue with the song being popular or her breaking records. I just don't like the methods employed to get herself noticed. I wonder if the song would have been a hit at all if she wasn't so...well, naked? Maybe I should become like her and only perform in my underwear!?!? :karen: [insert quirky comment]
C.S 0
Good idea, try it at the next wedding you do Edited May 5, 2009 by C.S I will try anything, once! The Cornish will arise again ! Manager of the Andy Harris Fan Club. Keep pasties Cornish
stardust 0
I don't get the naked/exploited thing ? Apart from her fashion sense - which i am sure is her own? I haven't seen anything different compared to most other female artists such as - Kylie Pink Girls Aloud Madonna - She was showing bits from day 1 IMO I don't know much about her however seen a few videos of her performing live with a band - total respect! And i love Poker Face - Great pop song! oohh
kevvyb 0
To me lady Gaga is a bit different to others and slightly more eccentric but I also think its just another artist on the pop conveyer belt and another one will be along soon!!
