Russ J 0
Cheers for the messages people - hopefully all will be well. I'll report back on the whole weekend, plus a review (in the review section) of the new Dual LED lights I've bought.
Russ J 0
Well people - did the FOC gig on Friday night and my first paid gig on Saturday, and I have to say - they both went really well with no major hic-ups. The Friday night was a 50th birthday party with around 75 people - the only bad point was my laptop started to stutter after 5 hours so I had to lift it from the table. Went stright out the next morning and bought a cooler which did the trick on the Saturday night. Very little in the way of dancers, but the dancfloor had it's moments. First time I'd tried out my SKYTEC DUAL LED TWISTER which looked superb set up. I tried uploading some pics on here but with no luck. And as luck would have it - a friends Dad is in a band and has some better lighting for me to have FOC!! The Saturday was a 40th birthday party with around 125 people - no incidents, but again one bad point, kids coming up asking for tracks all the time which I didn't mind, it was the fact that they came on the stage and were just coming too close to my gear for my liking. Didn't get anymore gigs on the nights, but you never know with time. So all in all, a really good proper first gig. I was a bit nervous beforehand but got well into it!! biggav 0
i have a £10 mp3 player with a 70's/80's mix on it plugged into the mixer and ready to go ... if i get any laptop trouble, on it goes while i spank the laptop!!!! :joe: You need some sort of back up as jumping music and dead air are killers!!!!! The laptop i use for disco's is used ONLY FOR DISCO's!!! no internet, no games. I have put lots of Ram into it and quite often leaving playing on "auto" at home while i work so i can listen out for and jumps or hicups... I'm currently building a dedicated Disco PC with DMX lighting and alsorts!!!!! but i'll still carry the laptop as a spare (and probably still have the MP3 player!!!) edit: Comment removed, not relevant to this thread. Luckily, I've got a 50th on the 24th to prepare me and settle the nerves. It's alomost likt the first day at school/work! believe it or not, its easier to gig in front of people you dont know than people you do, take my word, i have djed for 20 years and can still remember my first few gigs, terrified?? you bet i was, took me bout an hour to pluck up the courage to speak ha ha, the secret?? imagin you are in the pub, tellin a reaaly good joke to a group of your mates, all stood round you in a circle, just talk, be confident, and make eye contact with someone, and pretend you are talkin just to them, believe me it works, and music?? keep it right down the middle, until you can gage the audience, one step at a time mate, in six months you will look back and laugh at how nervous you were, good luck
