1 - need to work on mic work, not too confident with talking

Many years ago, I was a bit of a loner. Very nervous around people and not good at starting conversations. I found that the DJ'ing actually helped to build up the much needed confidence that I was lacking, although it took time and I did have to keep pushing myself to use the mic. In addition I also had the tendency to 'gab' when I was nervous and in the beginning I ended up speaking like an auctioneer. Fortunately I had a very patient DJ teaching me the trade.

The years past and I went through college did various courses and went through different jobs and mixed with more and more people in different social circles and now many years later i'm actually the complete opposite :D .

Yeh i have never really suffered from confidence, its just a lack of something to say. i went to stage school for years and have no problem in conversations etc. i have always been told if you dont have anything decent to say dont say anything at all, which doesn't go well as a dj lol. if anyone has any one liners please let me know lol. just something to say inbetween songs etc

Most stage schools can either include some elements of public speaking or put you in touch with a course or group which can help. Have you asked the question?.

Thats good advice, plenty of Dj's here limit the chat and only use it when and if it is required, and at the type of function where it is the most appreciated. Years ago you may have been required to introduce each link or talk up to the vocals 'radio 1' style, but today trends are generally changing. It also depends what field of Dj'ing you go into and the type of gig.

Far better to generate your own, part of what we do is spontaneous and 'off the cuff' so to speak, if you start using elements of other people's personality and broadcasting it as your own it won't sound natural. You have your own personality, all you need to do is to develop it and then learn how to project it, it can be done, it'll just take time.
