Well i have a weekend that will be memorable for all the wrong reasons.

DJ wise i have a Kids birthday on saturday afternoon with a small wedding do on the night. A good earner for 1 day.

However my eldest offspring had a minor mishap on wednesday morning She ran the bath at 7am then fell asleep while waiting. At 7.30 we found the said bath overflowing with what you could describe as a bit of a flood in the kitchen. i have spent all my spare time ripping down ceilings knocking off plaster and disoposing of my kitchen contents instead of preping for saturday.

had this happened six months from now i would be buying new dj gear as its my future office/storeroom when the extension gets built

Please dedicate a song to me over the weekend.....something like

wet wet wet

dogs d'amour - how come it never rains (it only pours)

travis - why does it always rain on me

etc

etc

Small pub karaoke for me this weekend so a chance to let me hair down, relax a bit and blast out a few songs of me own LOL. Also want 80s tunes to fill in between singers so hopefully it'll be good.

I've got a few good hires going out, including a marquee wedding in Brum tonight, a big 18th party tomorrow (dry hire to regular customer), no gigs of my own though. I might go along to the 18th and give him a hand out, it would give me the chance to test out my latest project, colour changing, strobing speaker stands for the big Mackies :shocking:

Last nights function was at the Springfield Parish Hall in Chelmsford. Just thought I would mention the name of the premises as it has a sound limiter. Not one to worry about though as it is set to 105db. I never managed to get it into the red once for the whole night and only had the occasional flash into amber. The premises are triple glazed and the fire exit doors are set to cut the power if they are opened.

The caretaker worried me a bit when I arrived as he said if there are no staff on the premises, the entrance door is closed and it has a magnetic switch so people arriving have to press the buzzer to get in. He was about to leave when we arrived but stayed and held the door open while we unloaded before he went home. Reason was because they have had a number of walk in thefts in the past and problems with some troublesome youths. Door was opened again when the bar staff arrived.

May sound all a bit glum but it is a well kept premises and the owners have gone to great lengths (and expense) to allow functions to be held there and for music to be played at an acceptable level.

It was a pretty difficult crowd to get going last night. Started at 7.30pm but the buffet didn't end until 9.30pm. They then had the cake cutting and first dance so disco didn't start properly until about 10pm - finishing time was 11.30pm.

Really mixed crowd. Youngsters that wanted modern stuff and the "old codgers" as one lady put it, wanted cheese and older stuff.

This week I helped out a mate of mine who is just getting going on the mobile disco scene. This is a 30th Birthday Party. He hasn't had chance to sort his lighting rig, so I provided mine as any good friend would do. I was also there to spin a few choons and generally keep order when the nerves kicked in

Here is a brief video

I know the wires are untidy, I tidied them up later ... honest.

Well officially the best gig i have done last Saturday -

Massive Marquee - Playing alongside the hosts band (background music/Band/DJ 1st Set/Band/DJ 2nd set)

I setup the full works and was encouraged to use my smoke machine (The band wanted to use it as well).

I went mad with the smoke machine - Played a half hour house set with the star cluster in full effect with smoke

and it even if i say so myself the effects were fantastic!

Best track of the night for me -

"Yeke yeke" - Full dance floor (mainly consultants and nurses) going absolutely crazy.

next week - back to the good old local community centre, no smoke, sound limiter and caretaker watching over me

Well officially the best gig i have done last Saturday -

Excellent news, makes you buzz!

In contrast i had what has to be my worst ever gig. Small wedding. A 1 hour terrible drive away up in the wilds of north yorkshire. I was in a seperate room with no chairs or tables and barely saw a soul all night, those that did pop in for a dance were so lame and just looked miserable doing the 'out of time wedding 2 step dance' (not the music at fault - it was requested). finished just after 1am packed up then a painful 1 hour drive home.

I wouldnt care but i went that extra mile considering the budget, did a nice tidy setup, used uplighters and played all the pre requested music. They were having a jukebox but the guy laughed at the music requests and put the price up to a silly figure.

What did baffle me is that i got some compliments on my music selection and was asked for cards?
