Groove Test Oxjam Fund Raiser

Recommended Posts

Groove Test ran a fund-raiser for Oxfam, under its Oxjam banner last night. Hoping end total will be well over the hundred mark. Venue dead early evening, a storm broke as we were loading in. So much rain in such a short time that the road became a river. Thunder & lightning set off car alarms, shop alarms and any other sort of alarm you can imagine. Venue filled as evening wore on, boosted by local night club not opening as expected. Result.

Had been working all week on set with Numark CD Mix3. This one a B grade item offered by Numark. Original returned under guarantee, glitching problem. Numark felt they could find nothing wrong with original.

Three hours into the gig & channel one fader starts cutting in/out sending hideous hissing & crackling through PA. Will be speaking to Numark again on Monday.

Juggled things & got venues Gemini system running - faulty play button on CD2, machine would not read MP3's, some CDA's read others not. You bet I got the hump. Anyway soldiered on & gig completed with sterling support from other DJ's working the night.

Returning to old Pioneer CJD 100's & DJM 300 for next gig. Will persevere with Numark as machine runs on 12 volt input which means I can use it as part of a solar/battery rig.

Music was, as usual for this night, Funk, Latin, Breakbeat, Electro. As usual vaguely drunken bloke, (generic character at a lot of gigs I expect) asks if Electro means that we will be playing Thin Lizzy...hmm!

What with all the gear upsets & the struggle to find CD's the Gemini would read ended up rounding off with an hour of Roots & Dub......got away without the venue owner pitching up with his portable decibel thingy to say its too loud. Forward the bass, drop the middle crank the treble...proper.

Reggae night next Friday....bliss
