Back In The Game!

having done a stint of twenty years YES! TWENTY YEARS!!! working as a mobile d.j. im back in the game after a break of five years, and im going with minidiscs, and "numark" cd system, which in the past never ever let me down, easy to use, and reliable music on demand, biult into my own designed and built transit case, very nice!!, all my music will be on disc and minidisc, all track liksted and dated, just wondering if anyone else is using a similar system, i found it very easy to use, and, im not at all comforable with laptop technology, given that if it broke down i would be absolutely lost. ok, if you think you need to carry 100 zillion songs with you on a night, thats your choice, but myself? i probably carry about 1500 tunes, which i think gives enough choice to complete a good night, with plenty of variation if needed. what you guys think?

I've done a stint of 1 yr+ helping my bro dj with cd's. I hated it, it just takes longer to search for songs, and you never stop. Where when we started on a laptop, we had a few problems to start, but then we got into it and its much easier. Yes it does get boring when your waiting for the song to finnish, but its a more enjoyable night over all.

Bear in mind that whatever you use, whether its minidisc or MP3, you are going to have to spend at least £250 on paying the Pro-Dub goblins their pound of flesh for the license in order to format shift from CD in the first place.

 

Thats one reason why i'm sticking with CD for now, and I don't see what the issue is. Finding a cd, taking it from the Jewel case, inserting it into the player and selecting and cuing the required track is hardly hard work, at least not compared to grave digging or a 12 hour shift down a mine.

Minidisc are great for kids parties! Im currently looking for a 19inch one so I can rackmount it

I used CDs when I first started, then moved to digital for a year whilst still carrying my CD Players and decks to every gig, then realised I didnt ever use the CDs anymore, so put them in the loft, moved to a PC-based system with the laptop as backup and have never looked back.

 

I just cant imagine going back to CDs now.
