Dj: "station Axed Me For Being Too Old"

Recommended Posts

A RADIO DJ is claiming age discrimination after he was axed by West Sound and replaced by a younger man.

Jack Bennie, 61, used to present a daytime show on the station six days a week.

In March, station controller James Plu told him he was being replaced.

The show was taken over by former That's Life presenter Kevin Devine.

Jack is taking West Sound to an employment tribunal claiming age discrimination and unfair dismissal.

Changes He said: "I was told I was not required back and my show was taken over by someone who was significantly younger than me.

"Maybe they thought I was a bit too old for radio.

"There was no reason to sack me. I had never been disciplined and I had never turned up late. I was told they were making changes during the day and I was not part of these changes."

Since Jack left, West Sound's scheduling has been restructured, with more shows provided on a networking basis from other radio stations.

Jack, of Clydebank, had been with Ayr-based West Sound since 2004.

He claims his dismissal was unfair as there was no form of disciplinary, consultation or redundancy procedure used.
