The Hitman And Her

Recommended Posts

A Lot of members will be to young to remember the Hitman & Her on TV, late on a Saturday night . Just seen on TV The Hitman & Her, the album. It a compilation of all the dance tunes around in the early 80`s (old Skool now)

(Pete Waterman & Michaela Strachan)

Anyone got it?

I actually went to see them when they appeared in Southport at Palmcourt. I remember when I was about 18, going out on a Saturday night getting a kebab when the clubs shut at 2am and then getting home to watch The hitman & Her on TV at 3am.

I have the theme tune, Timerider by Cocoon on 12" vinyl..

I am from Chorley, a small market town where the lights start to flash once the weekend arrives........Or is that just wishful thinking....

One of the reason's I started to DJ was to try and put some life into Chorley and trying to let people have a good time.....

Which in the main, when I was resident at a place in Chorley, it was a bloody good night out with live artists and myself as compere and DJ.

The Hitman and Her...what a great CD!

Brought back some wonderful memories of doing raves and nightclubs across Ireland in the 1990's...

The Hitman and Her was required viewing for all clubbers across Ireland

Clive and the dancers did a few tours of Ireland on the back of the Hitman and Her

And I still have an orig 7" version of the theme!

It's a pity that no-one has yet brought out a DVD of some of the programmes....

Think I still have a VHS tape or two somewhere at my parents place crammed with recordings of H&H.

The tune I did end up buying to use for those party talk-over sections & build-ups was "Rofo's Theme" - remember that one?

  • 2 years later...

(topics merged)

Following on from a post about 90's dance group DeLacy, it set me thinking about ITV's late night music show and (PWL vehicle) The Hitman and Her with presenters Pete Waterman and Michaela Strachan which was screened late 80's to early 90's.

Watching episodes on Youtube, I wondered what classic THMAH anthems you still play (barring the obvious like Kylie stuff) as showcased on the show...and not necessarily Stock Aitken Waterman tracks.

If anyone has any info on what became of the hallowed, bejewelled glitzy confections of nightclubs that featured on the show, I'd be interested to hear of them...eg Roxy Sheffield, Mr Smiths Warrington..etc. A short-lived rival programme used to feature our local dance venue Shelley's Laserdome Longton which was bulldozed to make way for a bypass.

No doubt raymilkybarkids old lights would start twitching & clanking if he played an episode of that to them!

As an example, I recently dusted-off Pia Zadora - Let's Dance Tonight and Hithouse - Jack to the Sound of the Underground.

I think there was the Ritzy in Bromborough which was a big circular Neon Fest in the middle of the dance floor. Looked a bit like the underside of the spaceship in Close Encounters Of The Third Kind..

Some memorable tracks:

New Atlantic - I Know

Opus III - Fine Day

Oceanic - Insanity

You see, you can't have too much neon in a nightclub.

Nowadays I dont think they know what it is. There's only one solution..Cosmic Balls!

Its all boring moving heads pretty much these days (Wash / Spot), plus couple of lasers and half a dozen 3kW strobe lights. This is Air in Birmingham. Although it is pretty synhronised through the power of DMX.

Music Box in Manchester's lighting was pretty basic - 2 x icolour(4) washes on their own sequence and I think 5 x 300w par cans on a chaser. None in sync with each other!

Around 1989 DMX hadn't been invented/around that long? And so I guess all you could do was switch the mains on and off to each fixture (and probably wired with 15a round plugs)...

Remember this:-

And this should bring back the memories for all of the old gits here who watched it first time around.

The show also launched a lot of new (at the time) euro style dance music and probably accounted for a lot of the success, popularity and sales which are lot of these unknowns went on to have.

Aye well the last three were all PWL weren't they?

Around 1989 DMX hadn't been invented/around that long

Well, DMX came in 1986..though how long it took to reach clubs I dont know. Certainly THMAH had large 0-10V desks (as you sometimes had closeups of the light jockeys) and the guy 'tinkling' the touch panels. An episode from 1989 shows a row of Martin Robocolors on stage, although no doubt on Martin's 'own' version of DMX ie Martin RS485. I suspect the glitzy clubs featured probably had large lighting budgets compared to today, the clubs were certainly very much busier and I suppose we were still (technically) in the heyday of disco (at least Clive 'wiggie' Donaldson the THMAH go-go dancer thought so!!).

Mr Smiths is now Synergy I believe.

Great times, essential watching when I got in from my residency as part of the Saturday night team at the Venue in Tower Park.

By the way, I think Wiggy is back ...

Jim

It didnt stay as synergy long as I dont think it was attracting enough people and always seemed very empty (capacity of 1500+) after the first few weeks of opening.

It is now trading as Halo. I am lead to believe the main space has now been divided up into seperate rooms.
