A YOUNG man who died following an attack outside a South Yorkshire pub was a "wonderful son and loving boyfriend" who was expecting a baby girl with his partner.

Tributes have been paid to local club DJ Robert Pears, aged 25, who died in Rotherham District General Hospital on Monday night after the attack in the early hours of Sunday.

Mr Pears was assaulted near the Boy and Barrel pub in Mexborough High Street, at 3.15am.

Two men have been charged with his murder.

Ben Wesley, 23, and David Chadwick, 21, both from the Mexborough area, were due to appear before Doncaster magistrates this morning.

Mr Pears, who leaves his mother Sheila Ward, twin brother Craig, older brother David and younger sister Zoe, as well as his girlfriend Kelly, was pronounced dead in hospital after he failed to regain consciousness or respond to treatment.

Today, Sheila said her son would have made a "wonderful father".

She said: "Robert was a strong, loving and kind person who would do anything for anybody. He was excited about the forthcoming birth of his baby girl and would have been a wonderful father.

"Robert was a fantastic son and a loving boyfriend to Kelly, who is now left to cope with the birth of their child and raise their daughter without him."

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident to contact them on 01302 385238 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
