Nothing for me this week, or the whole of august due to day job commitments.

I may be in Adu Dhabi next week, so will be relaxing this weekend and probably out on the town.

Enough of me.... what are you lot up to?

It would be good if you could post details of any venues (halls/pubs/hotels etc) you play at;

http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/index.php?showforum=55

How many times do you get asked to Quote for a job, not knowing much about the venue? Adding a bit of information will help everyone.

Thanks!

Jason

Nothing for me....

However on Wednesday I done a community fun day! And what a day!

Arrived earlier to setup and discuss H&S (risk assessments etc) and I setup outside. Got the PA rigged up, no lights needed, start playing some muisc and by 1245 there was a que! Doors open at 1!

It was that nice I wore my sunglasses all the way through! Including on the photos. Local paper turned up as accross Sunderland we done The Hokey Cokey...

Sunderland Echo

The only problem is I said I was from CrazyIdleGary.co.uk... which is due to released in the next couple of weeks. So apparently I work for the Local Radio Company.

Lots of kids doing mexican waves to buses going past, team biulding exercises to cross the grass, hopskotch and dancing comptetions!

The gilfriend and mother-in-law came along to (they live in the aera) and had them both doing the Bob The bUilder - Big Fish with the staff.... I was lucky to get tea when I got in from the lock up!

Sounds like it was a great time!

Well, it would have been my Dad's birthday on Sunday, bless him. He loved discos.

His favourite song was Happiness, Ken Dodd!

Not gigging this weekend but do have a client meet to attend.

I have been out since last Thursday with a night off last Monday, must be honest and say it is catching up on me a bit now, done 1.9k miles now since Thursday 30 July, been to Ellsemere Port, Blackpool, London, Chester, Garstang, Durham and Birmingham so far and local this afternoon, tonight and tomorrow afternoon.

Last night I did a Wedding in the local Ramada...what a dump that is...a good mop on the stage wouldn't go a miss, I had to get one of the old quilts that I use for packing in the van to kneel on when wiring up or I would have stuck to the floor :D The job itself went very well. Fun day for the local Council Depo this afternoon, I am doing 'The Yard's Got Tallent' so that could be fun. Tonight is a 65th in a local pub...Black Lion, but its a food pub and no private room, the clients are regulars but the public can still go in so not sure how that will pan out...they're paying top rate though so fingers crossed it goes ok. Sunday afternoon is an Irish Cristening and its booked till 6pm but I am a bit worried as its my Wife's birthday too and I have to be home for 7.30pm as we are having friends and family round...and, guess what I am organised and got her some presents :D Get yourself off to H Samuels, they are doing buy one and get one half price on ear rings knecklessess and bracelets.

Friday and infact the last three fridays the pub has been targeted by a certain group of people whos business is fear and drugs that are residents of rival venues , there trade is suffering due to people not wantig to go in such establishments and coming to safer nicer places .

not content with ruining there own places they have been sending in groups of louts to cause disruption , this culminated with my speaker being punched over deliberately cutting out all music mid song and a threat of i'll kill you if you play that song again, i said what song and he didnt even know what song it was! He just wanted to kick off.

I think his mates and him were tooled up so i just picked up the speaker and fixed the cable (speakon was ripped off the cable.) they hung around a good five minutes after the speaker was pushed over waiting for a reaction , but as we are all smarter than that and just ignored then , they up and left.

Saturday ..what a difference! nice people , all out for fun last night restore my faith in people. everyone was happy and up for a good time and the place was packed .

my Thursday venue is having a major rebuild and refurbish so no work there for 8 weeks!!! so not had it easy recently but that one night last night has made it up for me... on wards and up wards!!

I,m so knackered this morning. had a right late one last night. Good but very triring. Went on till 4am which is quite rare for me these days. Don't know where they got their energy from!

Other than last night the usual wedding do on Friday and got a strange Masonic Party tonight which is always a strain on my patience because thay seem do do loads of speeches and you end up playing just background music all night and then playing about half an hour at the end. Been asked to do them regularly for the next couple of years with an event nearly every week between the different local lodges but as much as I dont like to turn down regular work, I think it could be really boring and I wouldnt look forward to doing them after a few weeks. I might ask if they would like someone else to do them. So if anyone else is interested in the staffordshire area and has more than 10 years professional experience, drop me a message.

My weekend has been busy busy busy.

Private birthday on Thursday night.

Residency on Friday night.

worked for my mate on Saturday night. This was THE NIGHT FROM HELL! I was booked to start at 9pm, I normally turn up about an hour early if I havn't done the venue before just incase there are any problems. Problem 1 - I was using their in-house PA system. Incredibly dodgy, crackling on the line and some knobs were badly in need of replacing (the kind where you move it less than 1mm and there's a drastic change in volume!) I'm used to places being more or less empty at 9 when I start but they tend to fill up by about 9:30.

Nope, 9:30pm came and it was just me the staff and the 2 doormen. 10:30pm - ooooh 2 punters in! At about 11:45 a huge group suddenly came in, my cue to kick off the karaoke! After about 5 songs my karaoke gear packed in. Contacted my mate to ask for suggestions. I was only doing karaoke till about 12:30 anyway so he just said sack off the karaoke and get on with the disco. Was about 12:30 and all of a sudden what must have been a full pint was launched over the wall of the DJ booth covering me, my Vaio and 2 external hard drives. I rushed out the box and had a "Gentle word" with who did itand the bouncer came over and kicked him out.

I think the place only had a maximum of about 30 people in all night! It was really weird as well because there was a huge dancefloor but people tended to just dance wherever they where in the bar, despite my best efforts! Was a really weird atmosphere all night! I hated the night and was pleased when 2am came so I could pack my gear and get home!

Last night was a bit of an odd one, but in a good way!

The pub I have residency in on Fridays and Sundays had and Elvis tribute act on last night. "Brilliant" I thought "If he's on I can turn up a bit later!" Nope lol the management wanted me in EARLIER. I was playing stuff before he came on, then in the interval between his sets, doing the actual disco afterwards. I just set up a couple of playlists to play randomly from about 8pm and told his soundguy which slider controlled it on the mixing desk. Was a fantastic night! Truly the highlight of my weekend! I started the disco at about 11:30-11:45 and went down a storm. Only annoying thing was that they were getting their gear out and taking up a large portion of the dancefloor and at one point the soundguy unplugged my music from the desk and promptly dropped the cable by accident, making me scrape around in a pitch black DJ booth for a black lead lol.

Best part of the night for me though was as the intro to Dakota was playing and I took to the mic and said "I've waited f:cense:ing years to say this so here goes... Ladies and Gentlemen... ELVIS HAS LEFT THE BUILDING!" I really have wanted to say that for years lol and when I said it the whole place just went totally wild cheering for him, which made the whole experience better lol. Needless to say, methinks he'll be back!

Best weekend in ages - 3 gigs in 3 days - but 3 terrible load in and outs!

Friday night - engagement party at Fords social club, Southampton.

Anyone who has done this venue will know how strange getting in is.

It involves a hoist/lift that looks to have come out of a wild west film and a walk across a roof area on a path of steel plates. It's a big room and needs a couple of hundred people to really work. Lot's of lighting installed including moving heads and a great mirror ball, but the dmx'ing is a nightmare - no menus and you can't see the room from the dmx cupboard! Got to use my new Peavy system subs and tops. Not a bad night - not a great night.

Saturday night - wedding at Winchester Guildhall (not the main hall but a lovely room to the side). Again a difficult load - along a long corridor through 2 sets of fire doors, up a big staircase and along another corridor. The new system sounded fantastic. A great mix of party classics with a few current hits thrown in - a brilliant night, it restored my faith in what I do and why I do it.

Sunday afternoon - birthday party cruise from Southampton over to the Isle Of Wight on the Princess Caroline. A beautiful experience - lovely guests - attentive and helpful crew - and fabulous weather. I won't go into the details of the load / unload, but guess what, it was another hard one - but well worth it.

Next weekend, just a wedding on friday - I don't know what I'm gonna do with myself!

Cheers
