  • 1 month later...

from computer fairs ,dodgy car boots etc ..these are illegal . the files are often sunfly and legend who both have never sold hard drives with their brand of tracks on them.

I have sunfly and Legends on my harddrive after hours and hours of ripping them on there.....doea that mean mine are illegal too?

Kind Regards

Paul

No it does not Paul ..BUT if you read the post carefully he says where can he buy 40000 karaoke tracks on a hard drive

If you did a track count of all the sunfly hits all the sunfly most wanted and the gold series all the legends and the legends teen packs there would be less than 13,000 tracks no where near 40,000 individual tracks so there are loads of other labels too on these "40,000 track dodgy hard drives"

It is illegal to SELL on hard drives of ripped music karaoke content .

Produb will tell advise you that a licence may be needed to use converted /ripped karaoke tracks as a DJ/KJ at your public performances more details here if your worried about your legality as a host Produb clicky

I'm sure Paul was merely asking if HIS ripped music was illegal, so in addition to advice suggested, as it was suggested last year that some karaoke company's DO NOT grant any permission for discs to be ripped, wouldn't it (also) be worth contacting the karaoke labels direct regarding permission to rip their discs, so that he knows which labels grant permission?

I am sure Paul's karaoke was just asking about his collection hence my reply "No it does not Paul"

I went on to clarify why i answered what i did to the original poster never did i intend to suggest Paul's collection was illegal

As Dukesy Suggests it would be a good idea to check with manufacturers of CDG discs which ones allow you to do conversions of original CDG's to digital formats

As far as i am aware soundchoice are the only company that on record say they explicitly dont allow you to rip there discs to another format.

I have had no replies or statements at all from sunfly , legends, Mr entertainer or easy karaoke so no one has a definitive answer on if they allow you permission to convert there CDG titles to another format

However the good news is ...

Zoom karaoke and Laughing Gnome have said that they allow you to convert there CDG discs to another format as long as you retain the original disc and don't use multiple copies at the same time.

Because of this i have been using more zoom tracks in my shows

As always also i suggest Paul checks with the produb people who may be able to give him clear answers...good luck with that.

Thank goodness common sense still exists somewhere. If only the same level was applied right across the music industry we could do away with this disgraceful sham of a licence.

I'm a DJ based in Northern Ireland with nearly 10 years' experience offering a range of services. Including club residencies, karaoke, pub quizzes, specialised wedding service, Master of Ceremonies, Compere, Night at the Races and much more.

I'm sure Paul took the original posters comments into consideration when he asked his question in direct reference to points he quoted from you, BUT I'm glad you went on to clarify quoted comment above. smile icon

Peace :dukesy:
