UKHero 0
I took a booking lastnight from a lady and asked if I could play some cheesey songs. Yes I said infact I welcome your input into the song requests as it is your wedding and you should have the songs you want. She then told me she had called two other DJs one had said we don't play cheese and the other said if you asked me for kylie I would not play it. So will you guys play what they want ie the client or not. Your thoughts guys? Nik Niks Roadshow
Gary (GDK) 0
There is certain songs I won't play unless asked for, for example Dexy's. But I would never not play a song by a client. Only exception is at a kids party and I don't have a radio edit of that song. kevvyb 0
Wow thats interesting that certain DJ'S will not play certain songs!! At the end of the day they pay your wages for the night so you should pretty much play what they want (within reason lol). Plus I find that all ages all know the cheesy tunes and will get up and dance to it. Dont be afraid of cheese somebody once wrote on here and they were spot on!!
bluejools 0
i play what the person paying my bill asks me to play. I always suggest that as people drink the requests may get more "ambitious" and ask if they do have any boundaries.

Yes I think we all filter requets from guests etc but to flatly refuse the B&G requests is a no no in my book. Nik Edited August 27, 2009 by UKHero Niks Roadshow
vokf 0
Same as Nik, I filter requests and my direct client has an free say in music. I'll offer advice and give an opinion (so if they want Hard Dance, I'll question if the other guests will enjoy it), but ultimately they are paying, so the aim is to give them food for thought. disco4hire 1
I adopt the "He who pays the piper..." approach. So do I, I would never impose my choice of music on the client against their wishes. I may advise them if they have 'strange' musical tastes and the night's bombing. spinner 0
I took a booking lastnight from a lady and asked if I could play some cheesey songs. Nik Definitions vary greatly. One man's cheese is another man's classic.

deejaymitch 0
Last time I checked this was a service industry. The customer is nearly always right. And if they aren't I'll discuss it with them and reach an agreement. I'm a DJ based in Northern Ireland with nearly 10 years' experience offering a range of services. Including club residencies, karaoke, pub quizzes, specialised wedding service, Master of Ceremonies, Compere, Night at the Races and much more.
McCardle 1
I can listen to what I like in the car, at home etc. For the hours which i'm booked and paid fairly to work for a client then they are my 'boss' and my employer and so I play what they ask. I may from time to time advise the client to the best of my ability by calling on my experience in order to offer advice and goodwill where playing a request may produce undesirable results, but that only goes so far, if the client is still adamant about a certain type or era of music then i'll play it. In the past i've been lumbered with some difficult music gigs. A Wedding once where despite most of the guests being in their late 50's / early 60's and a small audience at that, the Bride wanted nothing but Indie all night. I happily complied despite being sworn at, criticised etc by the rest of the audience, but hey I stood by the brides instructions and followed them to the letter right to the bitter end, when the last guests left shaking their head. But the Bride and Groom were happy. I don't agree with this type of selfish attitude which is displayed by some clients - after all why invite 100 people if you have no intention of letting them make their request, or encourage them to enjoy themselves, but their money is as good as anybody elses, and i'm more than happy to work to their playlists as far as is reasonably possible. At the end of the day, the client isn't paying for me to have a great time and a nice evening out at THEIR expense. If I enjoy what I do and playing a very wide and diverse collection of music then its a bonus, however its not the role of a service provider and certainly not the clients' intention Edited August 27, 2009 by McCardle "The voice of the devil is heard in our land" 'War doesn't determine who is right, war determines who is left, and you wont win this war.'
