Dj's United

Weekend 25th - 28th September

Recommended Posts

I have 2 Weddings.

One is more of a family party, and not so formal. I'm taking a roadie along (not Carmen this time!). He used to be in a band, so it used to cables and lugging speakers about.

The Sunday wedding is 2 1/2 hrs, but with an early set-up. I've been told the best man is also a DJ, so will be interesting! lol

I'll try to take some photos from the evenings - and may even have a piccy of my ugly mug in action!

So - what are you up to?

Jetting off around the country again. About time too!

Off to the home counties for a fancy dress gig, then a private house party straight after.

I was playing Keep On Moving the other day. smile icon

Travelling 300 miles to go to a wedding as Guest and Dj for an friend. He was quoted £600 for a 5 hour disco - thats just silly. Small venue 100 guests!

Nice to have a weekend away with my Doris who is also acting as roadie

How do you do that cost effectively - or are you simply that good people will pay whatever :D

Had a great gig - decided to dress up as a pirate this year....and yes, the penny dropped when I realised I would actually be a Pirate DJ on the night! LOL!

Couple of years ago I dressed up up as "the man with no name"...so I was a cowboy DJ for the night, and maybe next time I'll dress up as Sid Little and only charge for the fuel.....I know, I know! :D

Haven't got around to downloading the pics yet, but I will share!

Only clocked up a little under 450 miles over the weekend, but not bad for one tank, eh?!

I think between You, davemoody and i, we may have melted an ice cap. i racked up just short of 700 miles over the weekend for 1 gig. :aa

Did a friends wedding and as expected the place was nearly empty by midnight. We met at the pub at 12, wedding at 1, eating drinking and speeches until 8, buffet at 10. Too long a day - i was ready for bed by 11. I set my laptop up and left simple instructions on how to add a track to the autoplay list and just danced around with whoever.

It was nice to switch off and go to bed without having to knock down. Oh......the guitars came out for the last half hour and im hoping nothing makes it to youtube.

Only do the miles if I can reclaim the petrol money and the wear and tear costs on the van. Normally work out a price per mile and then a percentage on top for paying breakdown cover and wear and tear costs over the year.

To be honest, most of the places I work are National Trust properties or the nicer hotels where the clients are paying a considerable ammount for the wedding anyway and want to go all out for a great day. About half of those are playing alongside a band as well which means that sometimes you end up just being their lighting technician and playing for the last hour but as long as the clients are happy, im happy. So you are driving a long way but only working for that short time you dont really get tired. Plus we all know cramming an hour with dance classics is pretty easy anyway.
