Hello - New To The Site

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

My name is Andre and I'm from upstate New York (Corning). I ran across this website through a Yahoo search and thought I would try it out.

I am an accountant by day and do a little DJing on the side at a friend's bar and for weddings. All I have used to DJ is an 800-watt PA system as my mixer and amplifier and two portable CD players you can get at any store. It is really a pain in the ass to fade in and out, etc.

Just last night I bought (should be here tomorrow or Thursday) a Numark Fusion 222 system. It comes with 2 Axis-2 CD players and a mixer. Instead of buying everything at once I am going to try and piece it together one by one. Basically I figure I can just continue to use his PA as my amplifier until I get my own. But the mixer and new CD players will allow me to eliminate having to fade in out out on two knobs of the PA. I'm also excited about the other benefits of the system such as BPM counter, time left, etc......

My questions were:

1) Does anyone have any opinions regarding the systmen I purchased?

2) When I do buy an amplifier - what is the minimum amount of watts I should be going for? And what brands should I pursue or stay away from?

3) Do I skip the amplifier and go to powered speakers instead?

4) If I do buy passive speakers I once again wonder what are the better brands/models?

5) Any beginner tips as far as mixing? I actually have a gig on Saturday night and want to use some of the new tools.........

Thanks for your help in advance.

Hi, Welcome to DJU.

Hope that your time here will be enjoyable and that you'll visit often http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/smile.gif .

It's difficult to offer accurate statistics on members since we have new members joining all of the time. Currently I would approximate that around 65% of members are UK based, although we have members here from the U.S, Canada, Norway, Ireland, Spain, India, Australia and New Zealand

Welcome.... hmmm a difficult question cos we all have our own ideas about what is a good make! I like community speakers - readily available in the u.s - they are brilliant but obviously expensive! Over here jbl, bose, martin are all "good" names. But use your ears to decide on the type of sound you want and what is going to suit the functions that you do.. Good luck.

WE LOVE KAREN, AND IT'S GREAT TO HAVE HER BACK !!!! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Hi and welcome http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/smile.gif

The power of the amp depends on wot sorta size venue/how many people will b there really.

I wouldnt recommend powered speakers because if the amp breaks the speakers are un usable.

Brands for products rather depends on wot sorta stuff you will be doing and you budget.

If you can enlighten us on these things then Im sure there will b lots of people happy 2 help http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/smile.gif

The "amount of watts" would roughly be based on the amount of people you will entertain in a night. Give us an idea of the average number of guest's you'd be playing too, and we'll help you out http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Thanks for the responses............

I would mainly be playing weddings or other events. So I guess an average wedding would be around 150 people.

I also DJ at a bar (rather small) where crowds are usually less than 100.

I just received my Fusion 222 - it's really nice. I did have a difficult time with the beat/tempo matching. Guess it will just take some practice.

Look forward to hearing back........

Andre
