If Johnathan the DJ tutor can get away with playing the Nolans at a Christmas party full of squaddies then I suppose it must be OK!!

I have just sat thro all that and there is only so much time that you can spend looking at his decks before you get bored.I dont think it exactly did him any favours.Poor sound from the camera and disjointed editing.

I cant imagine how much he charged

This is not a rehearsal

This is it - grab it while you can.

In 2008 the Daily telegraph "music experts" made a list of the top 50 tracks to get you on the dancefloor

The list has some weird choices to me!

Robster,

I agree with you.

Just went through the entire list and although there are some good ones, it certainly isn't a playlist. In the context of putting an album on at home to get your drunken friends up occasionaly on the carpet then individually they may have something but.... there's a real load of .... here.

Hmm looks bit like half of the playlists that are sent to me. Good tunes but about 80% would clear the floor :funjokeandlaugh:

I agree with all the ones you have ?????? bar the Nolans, some others thru my experience I wouldnt have near the list but hey ho.

Just wondered whether you have tried this one very often. It's ranked 7 on my playlistings over the last 10 years :D

Nolans gets requested at virtually every gig, usually by women of a certain age (40+) then they get everyone up

Well, Wavelength I put them in but my 60 tracks is now 73.

I know 'Top 100' always sounds better but the 60 has a specific purpose - so that we had 3 hours (or so) of timeless must have dance songs ... enough for one gig.

Time to start taking some off.... but somehow no DJ on here wants to do that... any votes??

Sorry to be a pain, but can we possibly exchange the 'Agnes' listed track for something else, such as the dance version of Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes 'Time of My Life', or dare I say Underworld's Born Slippy!? Also, out of all the Beatles tracks I've ever played or been asked for, the one that really seems to go down well is "I Saw Her Standing There". As there's already a 'Twist' track, is it worth keeping the current Beatles listed, or would you exchange it?!

Appreciate there are lots of variables here, but floor reaction for me always seems much livelier with the Bee Gees track 'Staying Alive' than their 'Night Fever'. Anyone else experience this?

And I know the Journey track is currently 'popular' (I like it too!), but compared to others that a 'DJ must have', I'd personally rate tracks from say Dire Straits, The Prodigy, Faithless or even good ole' Roy Orbison or Arrow! smile icon

Just some suggestions!

Sweetie, Dukesy

Thanks for the input. The entire list is based on people's opinions so yours count just as much. The list as you know is totally subjective with a bit of bias (as the one doing the typing) and also based on who shouts loudest and last.

I agree with most of the removals you've mentioned.

Interesting about Don't Stop Believing - Journey as it indeed isnt a great dance song but I suspect it is, and will remain, a bit like some of the other soft rock megahits one of those tracks that people go 'Oh great, I love this one' and then either do a bit of air guitar or just sway about a bit and mime the words while pulling Jack Black style faces to their friends!

Thanks for the recent updates. Some of your track suggestions have been added, some had been added weeks ago then removed and others probably might stay off. The list doesn't take into account regional differences.

Some of the latest suggestions are definitely dance tracks but an increasing number of groans can also be heard in the background when played at my venues (they would have made the list in the '70s/80s but I'm trying to stay off nostalgia). I played one or two of these recently and attracted quite a few complaints. They may work for some of you but songs like Silver Lining are off my list.

I'm not expecting everyone to agree with this. I'm trying to evolve it so that the list is definitely dance and not limited to the over 40ies or under 20ies.

Carry on adding more, but also make your suggestions as to which songs they should replace

Here's the latest version...

500 Miles - Proclaimers

Billie Jean - Michael Jackson

Blame it on the Boogie - Jacksons

Can't Get You Out Of My Head - Kylie Minogue

Looks like mine didn't make the cut then ... lol :)

i take your point on Jeff Beck - Silver Lining ... if you are looking to avoid the groans then songs that have been played to death like 'Come on Eileen' for instance

I'm not expecting everyone to agree with this. I'm trying to evolve it so that the list is definitely dance and not limited to the over 40ies or under 20ies.

I did add B52s as you suggested..!!!!

There were also one or two in your original list that were also already in the top 60.

The rest will need to chill out in the 'cyber holding bay' waiting for a groundswell of DJ's insisting on their inclusion ......

No sticking pins in effigies please??
