DJSFX 0
Hi all, Im looking for advice on lighting, I want to update my lighting and get rid of my light screen and I was thinking of this from Maplin http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=342498 for £70 you get 2 elfin flowers and a t bar light stand, then I was going for 2 Kam colourbanks to fill the stand The thing holding me back is the elfin flowers, has anyone used or seen these in action? Im happy to buy the kam banks as a friend has a set. Thanks J

DJSFX 0
I have looked at tube vids but it doesnt give you any idea of coverage in hall situations Thanks
fester 0
I seriously wouldn't bother. Have you watched the video on the maplin page? I think you'd soon realise you'd made a mistake when you try these out. Very low light output considering these vids are filmed in a totally blacked out room, very very small coverage and in my opinion very boring. The t-bar is also very poor quality. You'd be better off spending the money on a good 2nd hand moonflower or for better coverage look out for a decent barrel effect. gadget 0
If its the cheap t-bar then wouldn't bother it. Their "tree" t-bar thing isn't bad - except the first available "height" setting is err quite high anyway! (I think I paid 30 quid when it was on "offer" about 2 years ago now). DJSFX 0
those elfin flowers have Total power consumption of 4w, does this have anything to do with output? the higher the better sort of thing?
vokf 0
Definitely! With traditional lights, lots of energy is lost to heat/infrared. LED's are much more efficient (smaller power suppler=lighter unit too). As a comparison with a larger, more powerful LED light; http://prolight.co.uk/item/coba01/?PHPSESS...7ace78fe6506f26 156 Ultra Bright 10mm LEDs (R: 48, G: 36, B:36, W:36) Power consumption: 25W I would have quoted the impossibLED, but couldn't find a reference to power consumption. There are other ways to lose power (inefficient power supply), but generally the larger unit will be much brighter. The Colbalts (cheap Impossibled copy) are very bright - lighting the far end of a sports hall in daylight. The littleLED's are also pretty good for their price and size, these can be DMXed for Master/Slave.
aaadisco 0
I would stay away from Maplin to be honest, they are ok for cables and spares but the DJ equipment is very low end! gadget 0
I would stay away from Maplin to be honest, they are ok for cables and spares but the DJ equipment is very low end! you forgot to add "in emergency" :) Cos their cable prices are quite expensive. I remember when they were mostly mail order only, had 5 stores and the warehouse/office was all run from Southend-on-Sea... (and much lower overheads then). ... and you could buy things like 20mm fuses singly.... /rant :p The geni mojo spinmasters weren't a bad item when they sold them - quite well built - there seems to be a few still kicking about.. Not sure how old mine are, but they're working pretty well for their age (even if the barrels are cracked in a few places :damn:).. Think Maplin has turned into a KAM reseller now - saw quite a bit on the maplin site earlier...
