Dj's United

Weekend 22nd Jan To 24th Jan

Recommended Posts

Near through Jan - no gigs here!

Carmen has been asked to take photos of a friends, friend wedding reception, so I'll be the roadie for a change (and she can get the post gig grub! lol)

I'll have her spare DSLR, and so will also be snapping away.

Its a shame I didn't get the DJ gig, but I don't know them and they booked before mentioning it to our friend.

It will be interesting, the party is in my home town of Braintree- and it will be good to see another DJ at work on a wedding.

Ok.... what are you up to??!

Got a 60th birthday party tonight. It's not my booking and, based on the list of bands specified by the birthday boy's daughter, it's going to be a slow night. Still it's work. Then the residency tomorrow night.

Song to play this weekend: Metal Guru - T Rex

I'm a DJ based in Northern Ireland with nearly 10 years' experience offering a range of services. Including club residencies, karaoke, pub quizzes, specialised wedding service, Master of Ceremonies, Compere, Night at the Races and much more.

Last night was very good , i was nervous but over came that. with the new guy at my old residency i put my price up as i was willing not to get the work rather than work for so little ..he didnt bat an eyelid and wants me at his other pub next week .

next week i am working thursday friday and saturday so back on track and all at higher rates than last year..christmas for me was a disaster with my main residency shutting down just before , its about time i had some luck! ..still looking for a decent day time job though.

I hope everyone has a good weekend or that the promise of work comes in soon for you guys

peace Rob

Back from our "gig" (evening photos). There was no DJ, but was a rock and roll band.

All good guys, who did a good job (IMO). I've given them my card and offered to email/post the photos we took of them for their site.

However, the crowd were not up for it, and I also suspect the bride didn't know much about them!

Lots of mainly unknown music, from the 50's and 60's for a couple that were probably in their early 30's.

We got quite a lot of nice photos, but for people dancing, it was hard to get any photos of a busy floor - it was mainly 2 or 3 people for most of the night.

A proper function band would have been a better choice, or a DJ. Either would have played a wider variety of music. This isn't putting down the band (who obviously specialised in this type of music), but for a wedding of this type a more varied repertoire would have helped.

Still, I managed to get Carmen to pay for the post-gig McDonalds, and only 2 camera bags to carry in

Rob, you're a hard worker who genuinely cares about his show and his guests. Whatever trials and tribulations come your way, there will always be work for a guy like you. Stay positive and the ca$h will keep coming.

Thank you and so are you , YOUR the out of box thinking of your status on the social network sites keeps them excited and intrigued and best of all entertained.. i have been using facebook as a way of repeating the message and keeping a sort of fan /club mentality for a long time now and it works.

your recent one "I HAVEN'T HEARD THAT IN AGES - just a bit of fun folks, pick a really random fun song that you haven't heard in ages. The best ones will get played tonight." was a good one as it gets them thinking and most importantly into the venue to hear it..marketing has changed and finding new ways of marketing, especially free ways always helps .

Mitch your statement means a lot to me , thank you ! i do care about my shows and guests and i am honoured that it is recognised by one of my peers who i have the highest regard for..thank you.......... lol that sounded like an acceptance speech lol thanks again matey

Was in my usual Saturday bar residency this weekend, really busy night, everybody dancing all night long and the usual mix of current dance/rnb tracks.

The night was somewhat spoiled by a well dressed woman in her 40s who came over. She requested three songs to which I said "yeah sure, I'll play them when I can"

Twenty minutes later she re-appeared, with a face on her. She began "Im very disappointed in you."

"Why is that?" I asked. "I requested three songs and you haven't even bothered to play one of them, now this is not acceptable, you are no good".

I tried to explain that I had played them earlier in the night and would play them again later, to only be met with some kind of "business-like" complaint response about how I should have explained this in detail earlier, can she have the name of the manager and she wants to make a formal complaint.

I turned around at this point (my current CD was running out!) and she stormed off and spent the next 15 minutes speaking to the manager and assistant manager; telling them that I had told her to "f-off" and how awful the whole situation was. She did not even appear to be too drunk.

Its things like this that really get to me. The sad thing is, she probably had nothing better to do with her evening, and appeared to be incapable of having a good night with the person she was out with. I wouldn't have minded if I had actually been rude to her, but I wasn't!

The other 200 or so people in the bar seemed to be enjoying themselves and the manager said not to worry about it at all, but I do worry about some people and the reason they are hell bent on causing problems when they don't get exactly their own way.

I used to have a sheet with this printed on it at my residencies.

I am not a juke box where you pay for the song to be played.

I am a DJ. I am employed because of my own musical choice and my ability to know what suits the majority not just one individual.

when you place a music request it is just that... a request.

I am under no obligation to play requests and if you hassle me i certainly wont play your request.

If you don't like this i suggest you seek an establishment with a jukebox.

Dont let objectionable customers grind you down matey!!
