Tonights Gig - Wigan

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

Just thought I would share my experiences with what happened at my gig tonight, booked to do an 18th 7 - 12 in Wigan, everyone came in playing some club tunes which they requested stuff like moto blanco of morning after dark, inna - hot, touch me - tina more (that sax song) everyone was having a good time.

It was fancy dress and so had the usual banter about the attire and then they had the buffet.

Later on I started playing all the requests from the birthday girl and her and her mates were dancing but no one else so I played some classics and had a full floor.

About an hour later people started leaving like just before 11, everyone was dancing away but more and more people were going and so I sent my roadie to ask the client how he thinks the evening was going but then he came in with the client and says to me 'Ste youve been fantastic all of us have had a wonderful night but im afraid im going to have to tell you to stop, some of the lads have brought cocaine in and there was a fight, we shook hands and he was cool with me about everything'

As he said that the fight came into the function room and I shouted to my roadie 'Pop Smoke' to us means get out asap, we de rigged 12 lights, and loaded up in 8 minutes, we had got paid at the start of the night as always, legged it out and as we were driving home, saw 4 police vans heading that way.

Now im at home with a cold beer at 5 past 12... Result!

Shame for the birthday girl but it was her boyfriend which brought it, this happens every so often and its a shame because people were having a good night.

Oh well, look forward to another 18th tomorrow :p

sounds like you made the right decision there - get out quick!

why do people have to ruin events by doing stupid things like that. i wish the government would start to hammer people for drink related fighting etc, it may make a few think (or maybe not but they wouldnt do it again).

For the life of me I cannot understand why some people are unable to enjoy themselves and see others enjoying themselves as well. When I was a younger man, and had a few shillings in my pocket, I was out on the lash 7 nights a week. But I never picked a fight with anyone and always diffused the situation if anyone tried to 'start' on me'

Last night in my residency we had a stag party in. Thirty lads of varying ages from another part of the country. And they were scum. They tried to start fights all night, with my regulars and with each other. They were groping the girls and generally getting on like complete pondlife. It is absolutely pathetic.

And the scary thing is these people can vote...

Did you have doormen on?

Im seeing an increase of what I can only call scumbags out in bars in the city centre scene these days. Which hole they come out of at night I have no idea, but if ever I get a whiff of misbehaviour I always get doorstaff to remove them. I will quite happily ask our doormen to escort 30 lads out of the venue if they are annoying groups of girls who are just enjoying their night.

Very touchy subject Jon. The head doorman was off this week leaving one reliable doorman and one young, inexperienced doorman who stayed as far out of the way as possible all night, leaving his colleague on his own to try and deal with 30 idiots, and the rest of the bar. To make matters worse, the bar is part of a hotel and these scumbags were staying in the hotel for the night. Normally the door staff in this venue are excellent but to say I was disappointed this week would be an understatement. In fairness I can't blae the one guy who was left on his own, but his cowardly partner shouldn't be picking up a wage.
