How Do You Organise Your Music (cd's)

Recommended Posts

Hi there.

I've just been going through all my CD's as I'm finding that there are a lot of songs that I'm only remembering that I've got after, or whilst scanning through them I think "ahh bugger, that would have fitted in nicely then"

I want to organsise them into something more convienent.

How do you guys that have been DJ'ing for a while have your CD's organised so that you can find that certain song quickly ?

I was thinking of possibly

1) Starters/Background

2) Girls/Ladies (cheese)

3) Boys/Men

4) Oldies

5) Slow ones

6) Kiddies

Or would it be better to put them into Genre?

1) Dance/pop

2) Rock

3) R&B

4) Mowtown

5) Funk

6) 60's

7) Disco

Or any other way ?

Thanks

That's the beauty of not using CD's... you wouldn't have to worry about that question/problem.

With itunes you have hundreds of ways of sorting your tracks and the Smart Playlist facility is probably one of the top (if not the top) 5 best time saving tools a DJ can have.

(I feel a new post coming on).

I use Cattrax to catalouge them as I am a CD user.

My CD's are filed by a basic Genre system with my Now albums in one box and then by 70's 80's 90's Slow party etc..

I store my CDs in two boxes - one for compilations, one for single artists.

The single artists are (mostly) in alphabetical order, except for a few recent additions. The compilations box has a section of Now CDs followed by a Disco, a Party, and a Dance section, then finally all the rest are in 50s, 60s, 70s etc sections. I have all of my CDs catalogued on Music Collector (available from Collectorz.com).
