Worked last night... Valentines disco...

Interesting requests included Ghosts 'n' stuff by Deadmau5, and Little Boots - Remedy (Which surprised me quite a lot!).

Even more interesting... We had a few kids doing some breakdancing to Mint Royale.

Rather an awesome night..

Amp worked happily, new USB/DMX interface *much* better (although Freestyler DMX locked up once, and needed a restart - so there was a blackout for about 10 seconds as all dmx is reset to 0 on startup), and overall the lighting working much more "together" and synchronised than ever before...

This weekend I'll mostly be moving sockets in one of the bedrooms and then have a cabin bed to build...

Cheers,

David

Just got home from doing the staff Xmas dinner at a local social club. I don't charge anything but get a free meal and a free bar all night. Went very well (I think). Got my residency tomorrow night, not sure if I'll play up the Valentine's Day thing though.

My local Tesco had a singles night last night in advance of Feb 14th. (This is true) I saw a man and women with a barcode wrapped around them so I assumed they were an item. (That isn't true).

In fairness though I've booked a table for me and my girlfriend on Sunday evening. I just hope she likes snooker.

Although I'm still in the bad books after offering to take her and her parents out for tea and biscuits the other morning. They weren't too happy about having to give blood.

Oh well, if DJ work dries up at least I can try comedy. Have a good one!!!

My weekend started on Thursday at Southwick School. Been doing there discos for 4 or 5 years now.

Only problem is here that they put infant and primary together...

In a perfect life reception, infant and year 3 would be put in one disco

Then the remaining year 4, 5 & 6 together.

A lot of the year 3's still want to play games...

Anyway I still managed to play 35 mins of games roughly and 25 mins of disco...

Went down to the school early, where myself and my grandad (roady) sorted out the safeguarding children course... (Bloomin' red tape!)

Went down really well, just got to wait for the cheque and feedback sheet now!!

On Friday, I was at St Josephs Primary. They seperate infant & junior here, means I can really go to town with the games :) something which I'm very good at.

Started off with introductions... everyone in a big circle... whats your name... whats your age... everyone support sunderland? lol... lots of screams and the loudest name and age down the mic wins a prize! always goes down well and breaks the barriers down to!

Moved on to X Factor style dancing competition... Cha Cha Slide... self explanatory

After that went onto a dance workshop to Vengaboys - Vengabus

Then a sing-along to Spongebob (works well with my top - I get them to name all the characters leaving Gary the snail till last - "isn't it a good name"!)

After that swinging time to Rednex followed by dancing to 5,6,7,8

Musical bumps follows then two Black Lace dancers followed by Hokey Cokey

Very good first half.

Then the juniors. Little so n so's think there so clever!

Anyway all was going great till they asked for Sex On Fire - KoL. I received a very minor complaint (and I mean minor and asked not to play it again) when I played it last July for the leavers do at Southwick for year 6 last year)

So asked the organiser she thought it was ok... but confirmed with someone else. Result was allowed to play with air guitar and singing competition.

Ran the singing a few times just dropping the music. Will post the playlist later on.

After the disco, I follow up everything ok with the two parties and they just say "AMAZING". They weren't just amazed at the quality of my entertainment but also the professionalism I was showing. They said they were a bit dubious I was expensive but was recommended... At the beginning when I walked in, I was like im reporting to class! They found it funny, I said its time for the boring bit. We handed over CRB checks and what have you. I asked if there was any special needs, in particular epileptic. I use the Kam Par Bar for kids parties so would of slowed the sensitivity down if needs be. Just so happens they wasn't.

But combined with that and asking about the song they were impressed... Its the small things people don't think about!

Anyway while I was packing down they booked me for their Summer Fayre... Took the booking and its my birthday! Its just background music, so no games or anything so gonna do it. Then it's the Rocky Horror on the night. Wooo!

On Sunday, I've got an Asda staff party for the Boldon store. Its a valentines ball and there always up for a party!

Now I just need to find the Mr & Mrs theme tune...

Two Valentine's do's for me this weekend.

Unusually the one on the Sunday night is for a large singles organisation. Great idea though as it gives the bachelors (ettes) something to party about as all the married or loved-up (is there an overlap??) couples go out for dinner.

One thing you don't see that much anymore, especially at public events, is the use of slow tunes. When I was a teenager at the village hall disco I'd be counting down for the next slow one making sure I was within grabbing distance of a pretty girl. Just doesn't seem to happen any more (slow tunes, not grabbing teenage girls...)

So Sunday I'll be fitting in quite a few slowies and another forgotten (??) event, the Ladies' Excuse-Me.

Anyone agree?? Am I mad??

:joe:

PS: If you're looking for ideas for a fun 'residency', contact your local dating agency/singles clubs and offer them a deal for long term bookings. They have regular parties, often not on peak nights and the atmosphere is unique!!

Update.... i had a cracker last night. new residency once a month and it was rammed lots of people into support me and lots of old faces from the past. I got paid more than agreed as the landlady was so pleased with how busy it was and i think i may get more nights if i play my cards right .

my mate does the town centres main late night pub and he was dead so definitely punching above my weight as this pub is quite a distance from any others.

but best of all..i felt comfortable and really enjoyed it and the land lord and land lady let me get on with what i do without interfering and were full of encouragement.

got that dj after glow from a good night !

I had a fantastic time yesterday DJ’ing.

This was my first time since my awful CD episode the other week, so I was a little apprehensive to say the least.

I got to the venue nice and early (14:00 for a 15:00 start) - it was early afternoon as it was a family event. The landlady used to have everyone over to her house for valentines lunch but over time all her kids have moved away with their own families, so for valentines they all come back and have a massive family get together. Age range from 1 all the way up to 70.

I got set up all nice and quickly, then popped to the bar for a quick pint to loosen up and get the creative juices flowing. I started about 14:45 as I was ready, no-body minded.

It was pretty difficult to judge the vibe of the room, but easy listening (Duffy, Pamola Faith, Lily Allen, Kooks, JLS and generic chart music) seemed to be the order of the day whilst people were catching up, and the kids were using up most of their energy. There was very little chance to get ‘the cheese’ out of the box as it just wasn’t that sort of event.

Once the kids had eaten and were wanting some action out came the Macarena, DJ Otzi, Fast Food Rockers, YMCA, Tony Christie .... you get the idea. The Mums swinging there toddlers around and some very embarrassed teenagers.

As I had the teenagers in the room (and the mums were looking knackered) I quickly changed to Chipmunk, Black Eye Peas, Lady GaGa etc. To my surprise that went really well. I popped some oldies in there at the end so that everyone had some time on the dancefloor (Runaround Sue, At the hop, Chuck Berry, Sam Cooke)

That was it - 19:00 and I’d done my time already, and it’d flown by.

Everyone seemed happy enough, but the place was still really busy and even through some of the family were leaving more and more people seemed to be coming in. I switched off and it was deathly quiet ! People were looking around lost.

I went to the bar and asked if I could carry on - for no fee ! (I’ve got a biggie coming up at the end of March and wanted some extra practice) Besides, the genre of the room had significantly changed since the start. I’d bought myself quite a few new CD’s and wanted to give them some air time, and work out the ones that went together, ones that sank like a lead balloon etc.

Luckily my Mrs was there as was my little lad so I wasn’t in the bad books for not spending Valentine’s Day together, plus she’d hooked up with some girlie mates that she’d not seen for ages so she was quite content getting hammered on wine in the corner, whilst my lad was playing with all the other children there.

Started up again and carried on till 22:00. I’ve got a note book full of scribbles and song choices etc, so all in all it was very productive. I’m completely knackered now though, and I’ve got to somehow find a way to go and collect the car and all my kit as the drinks were free for my second ‘session’ and I didn’t want to miss out so we all got a taxi home afterwards. I don’t finish here at work till 18:00 - but I’ve spoken to them already this morning and they are fine with me leaving my stuff there for a while longer.

So yeah, very enjoyable.

My new CD’s that I bought over the last week if you’re interested:
