Dj's United

Weekend 26th -28th Feb

Recommended Posts

I've a nice little 11th Birthday in Stevenage this weekend.

2.5hrs, with a few games. Requested songs are as expected. Taking my 13yr old daughter as "roadie", so will be £10 lighter (leaving me with £50... :joe: lol)

The client explained that the last DJ they hired didn't turn up (for her other daughters birthday)- but was happy to book after a chat on the phone.

I've kept up good comms and nudged her last week for a list of her daughters fav songs.

Other than that, nothing else here, so in Dad mode, and PAT testing...

Over to you!

Jason

Small wedding party in a pub on saturday night, loads of classic cheese from the 80's 90's and noughties on the request list so it should be easy, in addition i know the happy couple as they had been regulars at one of the karaoke nights i used to do.....no singing for the wedding fortunately

fat bottom girls is a deffinate for me - love it.

Friday night, I'm playing at a singles night organised by a popular dating website. When I first heard I was dreading a room full of middle aged men and no women, but I've had a look at the site and the people who are planning to attend, it should be good craic.

I'm taking Saturday off from my residency to go to a comedy show, it will feel strange not working on a Saturday night but hopefully I'll survive.

I'm a DJ based in Northern Ireland with nearly 10 years' experience offering a range of services. Including club residencies, karaoke, pub quizzes, specialised wedding service, Master of Ceremonies, Compere, Night at the Races and much more.

3 Disco's for me this weekend -

Just got back from No 1 - School Disco.

After 3 years of doing 3 per year i informed them that i would have to charge this time as i loose half a day etc etc

So sod's law because i was doing it for a fee - The Wireless Mic power adaptor died on me during speeches (managed to recover after a few minutes with a wired mic) and then half way through, a 4 year old literally charged my Rig causing all of my equipment in my middle shelf to fall on the floor - I lost music for a couple of minutes.

Nothing like this has ever happened in 3 years!!!

Another Kids Disco tomorrow afternoon followed by a Teenage Disco in the evening.

Been asked by the old boys down my sports club if i could play some old 40's 50's and 60's stuff Saturday as background music nothing loud although most of them are hard of hearing.

Really looking forward to it no lights or anything fancy, just a trip down memory lane for them.

Good music is in the ear of the beholder or so im told

Wouldn't they want it louder then?

Did a Round Table dinner dance last night, supporting a band.

Left home at 5pm for a 15 minute journey.A bit of a hike to get to the room with about half a dozen trips back and forth to the car.

Band came in about 6 all p:cense:s and wind, taking over as they do,telling me what not to play. Not really enough space to lay your boxes, everything's in a bit of a muddle, how I hate that,in the end you are struggling to get set up before the guests arrive.

Played during dinner but you are never really sure of whether they can hear ok at the back or even if they are bothered whether you are there or not.Look for tapping feet, nodding heads or tapping fingers.

Band did their first set-I didn't particularly like them, but then I very rarely do.BUT they had a full floor,so what do I know!!

I only did a 30 min break for the band so I played some stuff that I thought would work but it was very luke warm.Getting depressed now.Easily put off. That's it,can't put up with all this lifting and carrying and then have what looks like a rubbish night.Might as well give it a rest now.Time to swap my tux for a dressing gown and slippers.

Thank God the band are back.

Band did their second set and still kept the floor full,so they had a good night.

I was expected to then play from 12:30 until 2 ish.Response was a bit better now,but because I never,or very rearly play to a playlist,I cant really remember what was working and what wasn't.But at least the floor was a bit busier.Eventually I sussed that what they really wanted,'they' being women cause the men were at the bar,was modern chart stuff.Lady Gaga,Kate Perry,Taio Cruz and the big one of the night,Kings of Leon Sex on Fire.

Eventually finished with Faithless Insomnia-must remember to start the track about 2/3 minutes in- and the time was 2:30.

But the biggest surprise of the night was just about to hit me.Take this with a large portion of salt(rather than a pinch) but I am sure you will know where I am coming from.

Having just had a bit of a roller coaster of an evening, from bordering on the 'died on your a:cense:se' to 'that weren't TOO bad' a lady comes up to me and says-this is the pinch of salt bit-'best DJ ever, super music, brilliant, have you got a card'.

Where the hell did that come from?

Anyway to continue-hope I am not boring you.

Time to take down and load up the car.Oh I forgot to say.The band had already left.Yep you guesed it,they took down as soon as they had finished, while I was still trying to work the floor. It has never happened to me but I know damn well that if I was supporting a group and they were finishing the night I wouldn't take down and pack away until they had finished their final number.

To cut a long story short, took down, loaded the car and eventualy got home at 4:15.

Unloaded, had a cup of tea and crawled and I do mean crawled into bed at 5:00am,aching from head to toe, even my bloody fingers ached.

So after a 12hour day someone will still ring up and say you are too expensive and would prefer £60 Sid.

Hard old life isn't it.

This is not a rehearsal

This is it - grab it while you can.
