It was going to be a bit of a showcase gig and i was ready to go for it. The story is a local village lost its pub years ago and they use the village hall for all sorts of functions, recently there has been renewed interest and investment to moderise the place a bit and they are pushing for it to be used. so i get a phone call a while back form the chair of the commitee to discuss what i do etc and was booked to do a 30th Bithday party as a test.

I made the extra effort to make sure the gear was tidy and prepared some playlists based on the info given. On arrival i was told that i had to live up to the last dj the they all started laughing. I was told if i managed to play 2 songs they liked i would be a hero

apparently the guy they had used on several previous occasions became increasingly complaicent and upped his prices and sent eejots to do the work. The last dj sat on his butt with a premixed dance cd talking to his mate on the phone. He was asked several times to play some requests (bear in mind they are aged 40 to 70) to which he just shrugged his shoulders and carried on chatting.

the 2 things that made me laugh was that they requested black eye peas and a few simular tunes like katy perry and lady gaga so he played blackeye peas and Nirvana. At one point one guest asked him to get off the phone and he said im asking my mate what to play, he instantly replied " never mind phone a friend - ask us you plonker" (stronger words to that effect)

so with this in mind i carefully set off with some easy listening background tunes from across the years and went for it about 9.45 after the cake was done, kicking off with a bit of motown. a request for summer of 69 and living on a prayer came in so i worked them in asap to keep them happy and that was about it. most of them buggered off home and i was left with about 15 people by 11pm.

Another night of being a glorified jukebox but i did get a laugh form the 'we will only dance to Abba couple' they were up and down for about an hour.

loads of positive comments and was told i was to be the preferred dj form now on....strange how it works...i was bored stupid and for the last hour was running on autopilot.

pics and playlist will be posted soon.
