Weekend 2nd - 5th April

Recommended Posts

I'm playing in my local pub Friday.

Will be a bit of a strange one as one of the regulars died on Wednesday. We all knew this was coming, but still very sad.

I'll be playing one of his requests, and then keeping it upbeat for the rest of the night.

Other than that -April is actually looking fairly empty, with only some client meets coming up.

May is much better :-)

Thursday - Bar Residency in Newcastle (was very very busy!)

Got to the bar and found that the DJ the night before had blown all 3 bass bins! Had to dash across town to home to fetch an amp and a spare bass bin (lucky I kept my old mobile gear), plug it in to the DJ box before it got too busy! Sounded ok!

Friday - off my 1st Friday off in about 8 years. (my Friday bar residency has closed down this week, looking for a new job!)

Saturday - The Slug & Lettuce, Liverpool - Funky House Night

Sunday - Sinners Bar Newcastle - expecting a busy one

Monday - Sinners Bar Newcastle

Just back from my pub gig. Its never that busy, but we did have a good crowd. As its a very varied age group, played a wide range - trance/ska/cheese/indie/rock/pop. Asked to play an extra 10/15mins, and ended on some 80's.

A barmaid requested "birdie song", which was played when she was dragged out of the bar. I think Carmen has a dodgy video of me, landlord and barmaid dancing to it... Getting very worried now! lol

Is it possible to have negative street cred???

Got a small tip from the landlord, and I think it was one of the better nights. Just gotta unload now :-(

Anyway, hope you all have a good weekend!

shock horror, 2 bookings this weekend for me -

saturday night was a wedding party - about 120 guests in cemaes bay, anglesey , bride and groom gave me a 2 first dances to play one after the other - elton john your song ,and journey (dsb) and no cheese whatsoever was the instruction apart from s club 7 reach - and thats what they got - no cheese , kingsof leon , lady gaga , killers, meatloaf , bon jovie etc - 120 people in a very small room, fantastic atmosphere , dancefloor full nearly all night , and when black eyed peas hit - the room went crazy - the first time in a while it gave me shivers down my spine - a fantastic night one of the best wedding gigs in ages :good:

then came sunday night , i have a residency every bank holiday sunday in a hotel in bala which is 70 country lane miles away about an hour and a half drive down the windy , bendy a5 through snowdonia ,

now normally these nights are a strange mix of all ages so you never know whats in store and as you walk in at seven the room is full of people very very drunk already before youve even set up ,

now the women are fine they just want to dance all night , but the fellas sadly all seem to think they belong to the wwe and want to wrestle and throw themselves about - very annoying especially when your equipment is in danger , so i entered with a little dread -

but to my suprise apart from two idiots who wanted to do one handed press ups in the middle of one record the evening went very well, loads of gaga, beyonce, bit of steps, killers again more lady gaga, queen and proclaimers and all in all a good night , and the landlady comes up to me at 11.40 and says thats it time to go - packed up and tucked up in bed by 3 ish

a good weekend overall :good:
